How Does One Clean a K&N Air Filter?

I installed an aftermarket CAI with a K&N filter. Very wonderful it is but I have no idea how to clean the filter. Do I need to purchase some kit?

funny you post this because yesterday i was wondering the same thing. go to any autoparts dealer (Ie discount auto parts, autozone, pepboys, whatever) k&n sells a kit called the "recharger kit", it includes a spray on cleaning solution and spray on oil.i think its like 9 bux or something. anyway piece of cake to do. you might even be able to buy it online.

Spray the outside of the filter with the cleaning solution.

Once it soaks in for a while, rinse FROM the CLEAN SIDE so as to force all the accumulated junk off of the filter gauze instead of through it.

Use lightly running water - too much pressure can damage the gauze.

Once it's completely rinsed, set it aside for approximately 24 hours to dry fully. Any moisture left in it will prevent the new, clean oil from permeating the gauze. Oil the filter as per instructions.

Reinstall it and you're finished!
