UK in Black Roof Shocker!

I'm soooo mad!

Went to spec my 'S' yesterday (7# on list) and was told that i couldn't have a Dark Silver car with a black roof until Sept build at the earliest.

The salesgirl showed me the on-screen order restrictions which says that only pure silver cars can be ordered with a black roof at the moment. All other available body colours will have white roofs + mirrors.

As i have a pet hate about MINI's with white roofs (and wheels for that matter....) i'm gonna have to wait until the september builds are delivered, probably in October

By which time, my cooper will have more miles on it and will be worth less......i'm really not impressed



ps - the same restriction also applies to body-coloured roofs.

pps - if someone out there knows that this is utter rubbish, and my dealer has their facts wrong, pleeease reply and put me right!

Sorry - can't help regarding the colours but I am interested in your position.

From what I've read I assume you are trading in yor BMW Mini Cooper for the Cooper S. I myself, am considering doing this next April (when my Cooper is a one year old). Out of interest what trade-in price where you offered - I don't mean for you to tell me the exact figure - but how much had the Mini dropped by and where you satisfied with the price offered?

I am willing to trade-up to the Cooper S but not if it means losing a whole stack of money on the standard Cooper.

Any reply gratefully received.

I haven't really discussed trade-in price yet; i'm not getting the 'S' for another 5 months so it would be only be a rough guess on the dealers part.

Currently though, the dealer said they had just sold a 'used' cooper for it's original retail value.
There seem to be very few used cars for sale at dealers, so far, so i guess prices are still high.

I have budgeted for a reasonable drop in value and i'm hoping that interest will pick up again once the 3rd 'Austin Powers' film is released later this year.

Finally, if the dealer does offer me a poor deal, i won't hesitate to sell it privately.

The list of available options seems to be getting smaller!! I am going to write to my dealer. I'll let you know what he tells me.

I've already spec'd DS with black roof, the obvious colour choice for the discerning S buyer!

Not had any dealer feedback on problem with this colour combo. Build date currently for late June. This is disturbing news, will have to investigate!

Some info from the MINI "insiders" would be most welcome here.

Addicted to S: my dealer said nothing about the DS/Black combo causing delay but was convinced that the half leather was. He said half leather will not be a June build.

That's strange as all Australian S's get half leather as standard fitment and first customer spec cars are June build

I was with my dealer when he put through my order to check there were not any problems with the options I wanted. I had the usual problem with Half Leather being unavailable but Dark Silver and Black went through fine for a late June build.

I saw both a Dark Silver and Black and a Electric Blue and White Cooper S on the way into work this morning (the advantage of living in Oxford) and DS & Black is definitely the way to go.
I had been tempted by EB when I saw a clean shiney one on a bright sunny day but having seen it on a dull, drizzly day, IMHO it looked really washed out - DS looked as good as ever July can't come soon enough

As i was at the dealers on a saturday, the salesgirl was unable to enter the spec onto the computer system. But, she showed me the (supposedly) latest info on colour options and restrictions. Black roofs and body-coloured roofs were definately on the 'not available' list.

There are two possible explainations:

1) the dealer info was not upto date, and black roofs CAN be ordered for early delivery.

2) the computer ordering system is not upto date and black roofs are not currently available on non-pure silver cars.

As the memo i saw was quoting order codes for each 'unavailable' option i suspect that the computer ordering system is too much hassle to update all the time, so dealers are given written information telling them what is actually available, from the master list kept on the computer.

I really hope i'm wrong on this, and that someone else has something more positive to say on this.......

My spec includes DS with Black roof and 1/2 leather. This this issue was brought up when I first went to spec the car - the dealer said no white roofs as they (MINI UK) wanted the new "S" cars to stand out.
It was never mentioned again though and there seems to be problems now - my S is due for production in week 23.

I just got a confirmation from my dealer that the DS will not be available with the black roof until the Sept build!!
The pure silver will be available though....
I am wondering what else is going to be put off until the Sept build!!
