| Hi, I've had my Mini Cooper S for 3 weeks or so now & when you put your foot down you get a gradual push in the back until about 3,500 revs then it pushes much harder.... it's all very smooth. It's a fantastic car...... Pete |

I know what you mean madferrit, when you ask the question. I would echo PRG's sentiments. BMW have married their components well, and I would say there is sufficient justification to "moving up the ladder" as it were to the S! I'll admitt, I am generalizing here.... it's not quite the 'push you in your seat' force of a turbo charged car which typically spools the boost more than the MCS.....but it does still 'surge' very urgently. There's still a little bit of lag....which is always spoken about negatively but I would say as long as it's not too long as to disconnect your feeling from the car, is actually a great sensation! | How to compare the feel of a supercharged engine to a turbocharged engine? My wife drives a Audi A4 Quattro with the 1,8T motor. This is a fairly typical turbocharged motor. Not much oomph below 3,000rpm, but once you get to 3,000, and wait for the turbo to spool up, the feel of acceleration, the "push you back in the seat," effect is pretty startling and it continues to about 4,500rpm then it falls off fairly rapidly. The MCS on the other hand comes on smoothly at about 3,000rpm and continues to push you firmly back in the seat right up to the redline. I would even say the the push gets stronger thru 5,000rpm and does not decrease until you lift your foot. There is no lag that is associated with the turbo. That is the beauty of a supercharger. Plus there is that wonderful sound as you pass 4,000rpm on the way to redline. Just turn off the stereo and enjoy. You better not try one or you will tear yourself up wanting one. | I know this may be a little old thread but madferrit, I have never driven a cooper but know what it feels like to upgrade from a 1.2 standard fiat punto (INCREDIBLE). Really it is, I couldnt believe the power. To keep it short, just go and test drive an S and drive it like you mean it, be wary though because at £140 ish per tyre make sure you can afford to change them at 15k miles if youve made them last ![]() Youre next thread should read "must have MCS extras ?" | thank's guys i am now very tempted to go out and test drive one but with the weather in good old blighty being like it is at the moment and not to mention the six months i have left to wait before i can go out and buy one i think i'll wait until summer so i can scare the salesman by giving it some welly in the dry how long do you have to wait in the uk to get a new s once it has been ordered? don't live life on the edge drive off it at 100mph |
