United-States 210 H.P. JCW kit installed... (5 day "mini-review")

... and I must say that any and all trepidation I had harboured has been displaced by a very satisfying warm fuzzy feeling (this must be what addicts experience with their respective drugs) and total abject exhilaration. I have finally learned the meaning of "giddy"... in the best of all possible ways. The car was pleasing to drive before JCW, but now it is a total rush.

Smooth acceleration, no more "S - stumble", 1st gear potency that I only use to dream of, smoothness and adequate power throughout the gears, a supercharger noise that I can describe as either "a melodic din", or as a "cacophony of shear delight"... or both ! The airbox (with the flap mechanism) kicks proverbial b*tt. Also, I was concerned that gas mileage would be adversely affected... concern entirely unwarranted... for the mpg has increased !

I thought the MCS's exhaust note would be louder... but it is not. It is mellow in tone, but has the capacity to produce an ear pleasing growl when summoned to do so with absolutely zero cabin resonance. It is quieter than my old MCS stock exhaust and looks 1000 times better ! Also, the tips are not overstated and look very very sweet.

I am totally chuffed that I went the "factory route" and did not give in to the "less expensive temptation" of aftermarket performance mods (though I have indeed seen some of these aftermarket packages exceed the cost of JCW, as well as the H.P. and torque produced by the JCW...)

JCW rules.

It is not how fast you go, but how you go.

I bought my 2004 Cooper S JCW so I could give my S/C C43 rest. I friggin love this little car, I was so surprised, the top end is sick. My car has the original JCW 200hp kit. The dealer told me about the 210hp ugrade you have. He describe the flap within the airbox. My question is do I spend 800.00 for a 10hp upgrade or should I buy a aftermarket CAI and software for alot less and more hp? Mini Mania has a stage four kit that produces 245hp for 2500.00. I am very confused there are so many aftermarket kits for the mini, my benz was a pain in the ass. A pulley alone should give the extra 10hp. I need a CAI badly. What to do.

If you are looking for a good re-sale down the track i would say a JCW Kit is the go, otherwise go price in the end it is all down to the conditions and the driver.
If you want performance figures for 1/4 mile check this out... I think JCW kit rocks

United-States That is correct, Boo...

The above excerpt from your post from the "The Works" thread had me ! It is just the matter of fact way that you put it I guess...

We can always count on a Mini friend from Oz to say something that is at once so very true (Aussies have a certain special clarity)... and entertaining at the same time !

I am too obsessive-compulsive to use aftermarket mods with wild abandon... so...

...I will be trying to find a "second hand" well kept '03 or '04 JCW S as a "second MIni"... I saw an MCS 210 BHP JCW on ebay for $22,500 "buy it now" recently...so it really gives me some hope for the not too distant future !

By the way.. I love your country (and the Sydney night life)... Had the opportunity to stay in Coogee Bay back in Nov./Dec. of 1986... It was a blast to say the least.

The JCW upgrade kit includes an airbox (with a flap that opens at 4500 rpm), larger fuel injectors (380cc) and an ECU mapping for the injectors. The kit retails for $525 but you should be able to get a 10% discount on it. Considering the cheapest price for injectors I've seen is $300 per set (Helix13) and most aftermarket intakes run around $200, the JCW upgrade kit is fairly priced, especially since it has an ECU upgrade tuned specifically for the set-up. I don't know of any aftermarket ECU remap for a 15% pulley and larger fuel injectors ... GIAC offers one for a 19% pulley and 380cc injectors ($345).

United-States Miniac,...dude... (a little off-topic, but heck, I did start the thread))

...your "cargo board" is sweet !!!

You should market it...

I believe it to look quite factory... save for the hooks.

IMHO, some latch style net fasteners along the lines of those used in the trunk of my former B5 Audi S4 would complete the look... and vault you into total factory status.

Any way you would consider making another one?

Thanks for the compliments

Never thought of using latch style fastners ... they would look better.

No plans to make another one, but a pattern for the board and an alternate approach can found in the following thread:

... for the link. Very kind of you. I am going down to Audi tomorrow to check on the price of the latches (their freaking cargo net costs a fortune)... and going to see a friend who can actually build me one... cool beans !
