Take a Golf GTi for a test drive, then come back here and tell us it doesn't feel any different to a 1.6 Golf with a couple more horsies under the bonnet. Then look at Grandpa across the street who uses his Golf Gti to fetch the shopping

Then take a test drive in a MCS and see what you think

I have a lot of respect for the Golf Gti based on the reviews, however, it didn't feel as special when I went to look at one, also bare in mind that a lightly loaded MCS with JCW 210 kit is circa 21K

for me the Golf is just too 'dependable'

Having driven both, the Golf's the better all rounder. Larger, more practical, good handling (not quite Mini standard, I thought) and damn nippy. The Mini has more character and a bit more cool.

2010 Cooper S.

By the way, the looks are not importnat because there will be slight modifications, such as coilovers, alloys and small subtle changes, its because i like the golfs practicallity and i quite like the interior as in i am not a huge fan of the speedos in mini, i like the normal dash look but i like the funess of mini and its different looks!

Get the Chrono pack or sat nav, then the speedo joins the rev counter on top of the steering column

By the way, i know this is not true comparison but on GT4,
the golf seems to vibrate a lot more when accelerating and understeeers more and better brakes whereas mini is more composed and goes where you turn,

is this true in real life? before anyone says, yes i know it is a computer game but i have driven a fair few cars on the game and thought on the whole it is fairly accurate!!

thanks

Yup i have thought about that but the thing is the sat nav screen is pretty small and not touch screen therefore hoping to get an aftermarket slide out screen
and the chrono pack is a little pointless?

Consider the running costs.........

The 20k service on a GTI is in the region of £180 and they charge an extra £55 for brake fluid change!!!!!! and the basic price is £19k........... suppose if you like a Golf with a red line surrounding your bland bumper....... no competition...........Cooper S or beyond wins hands down............

Talking

I had originally planned to buy a Golf GTI !! Took it out for a testdrive and was about to put down a deposit until a friend of mine told me to have a look at a Cooper S. Test drove the Cooper S and placed an order straight away. The Golf was just a little to dull. Smiled after every gear shift in the Cooper S. It arrives late May.

I saw a glimpse of topgear comparing a lot of fast cars like golf gti and mini cooper s works, and the golf was faster on the track. Someone please correct me if I am wrong, I didn't see it well enough.
But after more than a half year driving my cooper s, I am just now getting amazed how incredibly good the handling is and just now I know why people often compare it with a cart! It were only the G-forces that were holding me back in the corners because you feel them, but the car doesn't flinch like speed isn't a factor in a manner of speaking. Together with the power and strength of the car sometimes it reminds me of being in a roller coaster
So I don't understand why the golf would be faster on the track, but I certainly can't believe it's giving more or even as much fun than the mini in general.
