United-Kingdom Italian Job

I might be moving to Italy if I am successful at my interview on Tuesday. Now the thing is I have a Cooper S on order with a July build do you think they would do it as a left hand drive? Anyone bought a left hand drive car in the UK?

Cheers

Jeff

Jeff, why not just cancel your current order and order one in Italy?

because

If you have not lived in Italy for at least 3 months then you can not register a car so I will have to take a UK for the first three months and then register it. Crazy.

And I thought we had some strange rules here in the US.

Ok, working with that, still canx your order and order one in Italy, but get a beater car to drive for three months?

Oh no

I called another dealer and they said no. Why? This is very strange.

I suspect that it is because of 'Type Approval' regulations.

BMW has to comply by submitting a car for UK sale - ie RHD.
LHD would contravene such regulations.

This is not a definitive answer, but an educated guess.

This is weird,

here in Continental Europe almost every manufacturer gives you the opportunity to order a RHD UK specifications car.

It costs money but they do it. I'll be ordering my MCS that way in order to bring it to London.
