Don't get me wrong - I really like my MCS but would like more horsepower without paying so much (too much in my opinon) for the JCW package.
My lease is up in 1 year and I have my eye on the soon to be releashed Pontiac Soltice or Saturn Sky with 240 horsepower.
Too bad that the next generation MCS is only going up 5 hp (165 to 170). They should have taken it to 200 hp minimally. Doesn't make sense with the competiion coming.
Ive never heard of either of the above cars until I read your post. Just checked them both out, nice cars, but why are you comparing the MCS to them?
Im guessing just by looking at them that they're rear wheel drive, its easier to control a rear wheel drive car with more horsepower than it is with a front wheel drive car like the MCS. Though, saying that some people on here have tuned their MCS's to 250BHP, which to me seems a little excessive, I cant see how having 250 horses with a front wheel drive car is necessary, alot of tyre usage thats for sure.
No one is asking you to make more hp. Everyone is different but I prefer as MUCH HP as I can get out of a car.... it's always nice to HAVE it WHEN you WANT IT.....
I'd tend to agree up to a point more or less thereabouts, but some years ago we doubted whether a FWD drive could usefully handle so much, so we went and built one that had considerably more than 400, sure it was drivable, but the whole package was not usefully usable, scaled back to 270 ish, its all usable.
I think at the end of the day it boils down to whether it can be done or not (getting over 200BHP out of a FWD), if its possible, its got to be done
I’ve squeezed as much BHP out of my cooper (140BHP), doesn’t sound much but its all relative at the end of the day, the driver etc.......
But getting optimum usage out of a FWD with 250BHP would be something id like to see. On motorways etc it must be great as there must be great low end power plus overtaking etc.
Yep, 170hp feels rather lovely in my MCS. Though those were also available in the US..
As said above, if it aint enough, try a different car But I doubt it'll drive as nicely
