EML dash light

Hi to all
After an unfortunate minor shunt this morning a light is appearing on the dashboard displaying EML with a picture of an engine. The light stays on for maybe 10 seconds and until today I have never noticed it pop up before. Could any one tell me what this means?
Cheers

normally when you start the car the check engine and EML lights stay on for a couple of seconds after the car has started but then should go out,
if they stay on constantly you have an engine fault and need a code reader to solve the problem or take it to your dealer.

Thanks for that - it's what I feared, some sort of engine problem. I have searched the handbook but I can't find any mention of this warning button. Only a note that any warning lights in yellow mean contact dealer now. It's going in to the bodyshop tomorrow, but I guess they won't be able to tell me any more on the problem. Perhaps the damage knocked some part of the engine...really hope not.

It's just that I had never noticed it before and for how long it is staying on for...It would just fit with the knock this morning if something from the engine has worked loose. Perhaps calling the dealer tomorrow would be the best thing...

It could be something as simple as one of the sensors being knocked off, a similar thing happened to me recently... such a small job, they sorted it out very quickly

Cheers for the advice. I asked one of the bodyshop technicians about it today and he said it was unlikey the engine has been affected by the impact, but I'm still going to speak to the main dealer where I got the car from. Hope it's something simple and nothing else more expensive!
