9.1 Secs I believe the Cooper has a 0-60 of 9.1 Secs ! Does that feel fast in the little Mini ??? Does it have a nice tone to the exhausts ??? Does the power peak at high revs and need alot of heavy right foot to get the best out of it ???

The stock Cooper is very disappointing if you drive it around a City. HOWEVER, get it out on the country lanes, thrash it a bit to get that ECU auto adjusted and you'll experience a different vehicle altogether. Especially, if you keep it in that sweet spot between 4K and 6K RPM. The Cooper DOES need to be revved high and can be drive in 2nd 3rd and 4th all day ![]() Mind, you,. It does help that I have a PlayMINI Exhaust, Pipercross Viper induction and an MTH ECU Remap .At Mikeythemini's lakes run, I was with a pack of Cooper S's, One a JCW, one a GTT conversion, one a GRS and some stocks, PLUS a Civic Type R and although they wasted me on the straights, I was glued to them on the bends ![]() I estimate I'm pulling about 135Bhp outta my Cooper with the mods when it's fully worked up and not in City driving mode .As for the noise... I received comment after comment about how aggressive, meaty and awesome it sounded. One said it's a V8 sound, one said it's very rally like ![]() All I know is it makes people stop turn and say WTF was that?

THE MINI's ECU (Stock or remapped) has the ability to auto adjust the parameters. If you drive around a city all the time, the ECU backs off the power and I find that acceleration through 1 and 2 to be drawn out and lazy. This has been the source of many a gripe when my GF in her ONE can out drag me on a national speed limit dual carriageway. (mind you she drives a lot of national speed limit roads so gets to see higher RPM's for a lengthier period) However, if you get out on the lanes and ensure you accelerate 1 and 2 right through to 6500 or more, you will, after a while notice that when pulling off in 1 and changing up through 2, that the engine is a lot more torquey and is raring to reach that 4K mark and above. Last weekend on Mikeythemini's lakes run, unless we were stopped or on some VERY steep roads, my car barely saw 1 or 5, it spend most of it's time in 2 and 3 (especially for bends)... and on long straight stretches, 4. There is no special switches or remapping YOU need to do, you just need to let that engine enjoy 6.5 K in 1 and 2. Try it... turn a blind eye to the fuel. Get out on some 60Mph roads and DO NOT go into 5th.. Accelerate through the range, brake late, drop to 2, accelerate back up through the range, Repeat for a good 10 miles or more... then continue for another good 10 miles and you should feel a different car. In fact, having noticed you're in York, get out on the dales by Thirsk and head over through Hovingham (just for the water splash) and over to Scarborough... give that car a good working out

9.1 is nippy but not fast. In the MINI 9.1 is fairly nippy feeling, the car has resonable torque and pull well all the way from mid to high revs. 3000-6000+ rpm. I had a Cooper before my S and its plenty fast on the road for overtaking most stuff. It will go some when wanted and a remap will do wonder for giving it a touch more edge for not very much cash. Just as a yard stick, theres not that many 1.6 litre cars that do 0-60 in 9 seconds. My Cooper as stock could do it a touch quicker than 9.1 seconds I recon, but I never proved it.

Oh and the stock Cooper exhaust is quite nice sounding. its a bit throatier than most 1.6 small cars but not as aggressive as the S or an aftermarket sports system. Don't expect too much from the stock exhaust but you can blip the right peddle and get a nice muted thoaty sound and loverly burble and pop noise

I haven't timed my MINI. I think I'll get it up to the lakes or the dales sometime, get that ECU all fired up and then get a stop watch I can mount by my MFSW buttons so I can get as accurate a time as possible... Must admit, I'd love to know what I can get to 60 in... to be honest, it certainly seems to be quicker than 9.1 secs... but can't be sure without trying.

I'm sure you'll find the standard Cooper very nippy around town. I've had "S's" on demo and find them to be a little sluggish around town (extra weight & low boost etc). Once you've got used to the standard Cooper, you can make a few minor mods and get a bigger 'kick' at 4,000 RPM's. I've got a remap, Viper induction kit and cat-back exhaust - none of which cost too much money and the car feels very different from a 'standard Cooper'. If higher speed runs is your thing the the Cooper S is very good on the motorway, once you wind-up the supercharger it really pulls, but you pay for it at the fuel pumps.

I would agree with most of the above. With both the Cooper and the One, they need to be driven hard to see the best results. There are people who argue that the Cooper is a better car than the Cooper S, because it's a more involving drive. You actually need to work it, whereas with the S, you weld your foot to the floor and it goes regardless... Depends what you want from a car I guess.
