I guess they didn't make the first few the way they should have done! What gets me is that you got through so many boxes after that! The guys reconditioning them should be shot! Would you consider dropping in an S box if this one goes pop?

What new bits? I didn't buy any new bits...

unfortonatley i think the same is true for this as i think the greatg box has diff drive shafts and clutch but dont quote me on that

well that may be why my car never gets the getrag when i get a new box fitted... grrrr well hopefully the recoditioned box will have a longer life than a factory made one... hopefully the parts they have used will be a bit more durable

when did you last have one fitted as from what i was told this is a very recent thing bmw have done cos of the problems the midlands have had

got the last box fitted in May i think after the last one snapped a bearing (read My cooper the truth)

the getrag box was put in mini's from the end of 2003 as far as i know..

Not quite right Sam

The Getrag went in from the release of the Convertible in July 04. My Jan 04 has the Midlands box so i just missed out.

oops what i ment was it was at some point this year that bmw/mini stopped offering midlands as replacments due to all the trouble and just did gertags

which is why i think you can only get them from either crashed cars or re-con companies such as Mini mania UK.. they say that their re-con box will last longer than the midland box as it was orginal because they use better parts...

im not sure to the extent of the recon and how many parts are replaced but all i know is its also the box the rover 45 had so theres a bit of rover in some of us
