Cooper Performance Upgrade

Wanderring if anyone has the Minispeed 150bhp or the 165bhp performance upgrade for MINI Cooper? Anyone know what they're like?

Thanks

Also thinking of upgrading my wheels to S spokes or Bullets. Does anyone know which are lighter?

Thanks

I have a Mini One which is running about 143bhp and jumping from my friends standard Cooper to my modified One there is a big difference in power and general drivability. I am also very interested in the 165bhp kit, would love to have a go in one, it might be a nicer car to drive than a standard S as there is no delay in the power being put down!

What is the difference between the 150bhp kit and the 165bhp kit as to the components used?

Lohen do the lo3 package which gives you 150bhp! and sounds rather nice

check the link out at the bottom of page, you'll need quicktime.

Thanks for the comments.

Will take a closer look at the Bullets. Will be using NON-runflats though.

Here is the link to the 165bhp: New Mini Product | Mini Cooper Stage 3 Conversion Kit

and 150bhp: New Mini Product | Mini Cooper Stage 2 Conversion Kit

Had a look at the Lohen, but Minispeed are closer to me, and Lohen don't do a 165bhp just yet.

And I want to keep my Cooper and not buy an S. However, I suppose if I went for a 165bhp upgrade that may qualify me for a bonnet scoop and central twin exhaust!

Yeah Minispeed are nearer to me aswell, so i may have to look into the the 165bhp kit when i get the cylinder head and cam work done on my One. MMMMMmmmm a bonnet scoop would be very nice, i wonder how it would perform against an S? It may be faster 0-60 as the little engin has no supercharger to spin up!

I think a mini One D badge would be inorder if our cars managed to reach this sort of performance level!

Hi there 1andy,

Well the car has got a bluefin remap, pipercross viper induction kit, M7 tuning 58mm throttle body, iridium spark plugs, MiniMania 4-2-1 exhaust manifold and miltek cat back. I also just for good measure run the car only on either tesco 99 or BP ultimate so the car runs nicely.

I want to get some up rated brakes in the near future to stop the bloody thing!

But it goes well, last week we were comparing the cooper and One performance (my One) and along the bypass off the round about my one with a passenger and other rubbish in my car still pulled past the cooper at an alarming rate.

The cooper with only a slight modifications i feel would be faster than my One due to the sportier gear box!

Why have you got some modifications in mind then 1andy?

I thought a Supercharger was instantaneous and you didn't have to wait for it to spin up as it was a direct mechanical connection, unlike a Turbocharger which works off exhaust gases and therefore can be laggy?

The Cooper S I drove a few years ago had fantastic instant throttle response, unlike my Leon Cupra 1.8T which, though not too bad, could catch you out if you were in the wrong gear. No where near as bad as my mate's Impreza though.

All i mean my that is, that when you pull away in an S in a reasonable manner and not wheels spinning, then plant your right foot there is a feeling of delay while the engin picks up enough power to spinn the supercharger to the right amount where it boosts properly.

Where as with a one or cooper the physical drive feels as if the car is lighter and full powre can be achived faster.

i.e. with my 140bhp One traveling at 30mph in second next to my friends Hartge conversion 240bhp CooperS who is also in second gear, if we floor it at the same time we are neck and neck untill i hit 60 and have to change gear, (in the S he can keep going till 70mph ish). when i change into third he flys infront of me and dissapears!

Some of the delay is built in to the drive-by-wire system (both models), and with the MCS,
there's also the heavier flywheel, heavier crank pulley and different gearing compared to the MC.

Im not saying your wrong here but i maybe could understand this happening with a standard "S" if your car has 140BHP + but with a 240BHP Hartage "S" your sayin you can keep up until 60Mph

The 165bhp conversion is £2000! Would you not be tempted to sell you one and just buy an MCS? I have a chipped One and it'd be great to make it quicker but I'd think twice about throwing loads of cash at it to make it only nearly as fast as a Cooper S.

Thats right Yellow Mini Scott, i cant keep up 0-60mph, coz of gear change, but think about it, why would i lie? i know its nutts to think a One would keep up with an S but i have done it, 0-60 no but 30-60 yes, its mind boggeling but i have done it. the guy who owns this hartge mini cooper S is on here and he is called "minihartge" if you see a thread from him, ask him.

like i said i dont think you were fibbing (well maybe ) but if that was me id be thinking ive spent alot on my "S" to get it to 240BHP and a ONE is keeping up with me! i still think its doubtfull a 100BHP extra is a lot and i do think he'd wipe the floor with you in 2nd at 30MPH in an "S" with 240BHP i can almost definately say that the supercharger is aready spining enough to give an instant boost over you! the only thing that will convince me,is me being sat in his hartage "S" and doing what you have mentioned which is both doing 30MPH and then flooring it!

sorry...... but i do agree with you if it was a standard "S" and your ONE at 140BHP but not a 240BHP hartage!
