My Cooper is now squeek free

Finally! After having the car for 8 months now, and the car being into the dealers about 5/6 times now, the thing is perfect again.

The rattle in the dashboard is gone, the seats (which were replaced) are not squeeky and the boot rattle is gone. Apparently, they took the dash to bits and did some odds in there, the boot had new bits fitted (I can't remember what). My only hope is that the new seats (which were on order for 6-8 weeks!!!) don't start squeeking again after some mileage.

So if your Cooper squeeks, have faith, when it doesn't anymore it makes it all worthwhile. The thing was really bugging me before it was fixed. Only downside, I had a 320td SE while my Cooper was getting fixed, and I liked it a lot. Need to take my Coop for a run today to remind myself how good it is :-)

Your Copper must have been put together by the same Friday afternoon shift as mine. Your list of squeaks and creaks is identical to mine - I'm nearly ther having had the car back 6 times now.

Ah! So it's not just me with the squeaking seats!!

Interested to read both of your comments. Again my own list of niggles is practically identical.

I've fixed the boot-latch myself, courtesy of a couple of pieces of insulating tape, but I'm going to be hassling my dealer about the dashboard and the seats.

Cheers,

Willie

Willie, how long have you been driving your MINI? I ask because the dash in my Cooper squeeked for the first couple of weeks and then went away. I brought it in and went on a test drive with them and it wouldn't do it. Now it only does it rarely when it is either very cold and I have the heat on high or very hot and I have the AC on very high.

I too fixed the hatch with some tape. My driver's seat has squeeked a few times but I find changing the settings to something else and then back fixes it, so it must just need some lubing.

I drove part of the way in to work today with the radio off just to listen to the engine and the car is remarkably quiet! Almost 6500km on it, engine is working and sounding great! I had to pull out into 60MPH traffic today, nice redline shifts had me going faster than traffic before I knew it.

Come on Zoooom...

You're not trying to tell me your arse didn't let out a squeak while going round some of those corners the other week.

I've had my car just over 3 months now. The dashboard rattle is only noticible at slow speeds (around 20-30 MPH)and comes from the front rh side, just below the windscreen.

Oh, and before Zoooooom comes back with a witty retort, yes I know the car shouldn't be travelling at 20-30 MPH Fortunately it only goes this slow when I'm meandering around Tesco's car park looking for a space

The drivers seat and passenger seat both squeak, not really loud but enough to irritate after a while. I'll try fiddling with the settings a few times to see if this helps but I think most of the noise is coming from the springs in the base of the seats.

Good to hear you're enjoying your car. My own car is just coming up for 2000 miles and I'm gradually starting to increase the revs on the gearshifts. I've got some lovely little twisty roads around where I live so you can be sure I'm having plenty fun.

All in all I'm in love with the car (so's my wife). It's the first car I've had in a long while that I literally look for an excuse to go out and drive in

Cheers,

Willie

The dashboard had to come off before they sorted it out, the drivers seat has been replaced due to faulty mechanism (and squeak) and now the paneling in the rear has started to rattle ocassionally. Both seats have started squeaking again - aaaarrrrgh!!!

That's the car just coming up to 6000miles and mechanically I couldn't ask for more (maybe a bit more bhp but..)

Another trip to the dealer methinks

Sounds like a trip to the dealer is worthwhile!

The dashboard thing was completely sorted on mine, they did in fact take it all out etc, it's a hassle but it makes it worth while.

Are you one of the two people who have greeted me in Edinburgh? It all seems to be posh middle aged women who are just not interested. Mind you, there is a bloke in my gym who flashed from a mini, G plate, with a full bank of fogs the other day, which made me laugh!

I know what you mean - there's an OAP got a DS Cooper S around here and she hasn't got a clue - poor car will never go over 2K revs.

I may have seen you about - I'm usually to be found whizzing about Leith Walk and the east end - I'm the only red cooper with the 17" S-spokes in town so i'm not too easy to miss.

Hope to see you on the next run....

The squeak on mine came from the exact same spot- You'd never know the dash had been touched - not a mark so don't worry. I Think thay added rubber washers at all the contact points - certainly seems to work . Why don't they do these things to start with a save everyone a lot of bother.

Cooper Squeaks

Only had my Cooper for a week and youch wood it has far less squeaks than my One did, my only concern is a Squeak coming from the drivers door window when fully up, with the window open an inch it is fine. Is it just the window seal needing to bed in or will it require a trip to the dealer?

I'd give it time to bed in before seeing the dealer if I were you. My dash and driver's door squeeks went away on their own after 2 weeks and are still gone 4 months later.
