Great news that it's been found. Your experience makes for scary reading. You did however do the right thing. Always consider your own safety as a priority.

Hope your car is in good working order.

just been thinking, because they found the car with no keys and the possibility that the thugs could still have them..that im going to have the locks changed..the only thing is that should i have to pay my excess? Because its not exactly my fault that the car was stolen and the nature of how it all happend? I currently pay about £850 for insurance and my excess is £750 it was £500 but because im under 25 they say that there is a £250 added onto the current excess..i basically would be paying £1600 thats without the fee from the recovery of the car....

any thoughts?
cheers

Glad to hear your car has been found after that ordeal.

Thats a rather large excess value to pay. I would wait to see what the total cost for recovery is and any damage to the car and see if its cheaper not going through the insurance and increasing your premium.

I don't think your car being stolen "not being your fault" will matter to the insurance company with regards excess etc. Perhaps, I have no idea, they may have a special cover/clause about cars stolen & recovered and key changes.

I understand what your saying.. just think its all a little bad that im a victim of a crime then, im basically a victim of another crime being penalised for something i have no control over..I might not need to go through the insurance,Il just have to see what all the damages are and bite the bullet..One thing for sure is that il never use Direct Line ever again..everything has just been a constant battle with them..

cheers

Hey sorry to hear about your mini glad they found it. My mcc was stolen a few weeks ago they recovered it but the thiefs broke into my house and took my key and the spare! so i had to get a new lockset which was £256 from the dealers but they wanted £600 to fit it! i ended up taking it to an independant mini garage and they charged me £140 for fitting however be careful because when they came to programme to remote locking/unlocking BMW had the code and wouldnt give it out so i had to go to them and get the keys coded for £140 but it was still cheaper than the £600 they quoted before!. My excess was £1000 because im only 19 so i decided to pay the costs i know its a pain but it will cost a lot less than £1600 to sort it out. And you dont loose your no claims! its crap how we loose out when some t*** decides to steal your car hope you get it sorted

Forgot to say it also cost me £240 to get it out of storage! they charge for recovery again even though it isnt your fault! and so much a dat until the police can take finger prints! My insurance company gave me £100 towards the cost of replacement keys it wasnt subkect to any excess and didnt effect my no claims! its a drop in the ocean but it helped
