Switzerland changing stock air filter

I want to change the stock air filter on my 2005 Cooper. Is there a thread or service post descibing this, as I haven't been able to find it ... anyway, i wanted to know:

1. do I need to just remove the 2 screws on the right side of the air box, or do I need to remove the round air pipe on the left side of the box (with the strange clamp)?

2. is the stock filter rectangular or a funny shape? The air box looks like it could be 5-sided, but I don't know (yet). The local car parts joint gave me a box that when I got it home and looked at the rectangular filter - appears to be totally wrong to fit in the air box.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Cheers,
Blaine

Open the bonnet and you'll see it on your right hand side. Unclamp the jubilee clip and pull the hose off the airbox, remove the two screws fastening the airbox, push the lid to the left a bit and take the top off (making sure you don't snap the two plastics clips).

Take the air filter out and hoover up any cr*p that might be in there, stick the new one in, replace everything and job da!

You might find it a bit of a pain getting the jubilee clip back on, I used a pair of pliers and a screwdriver.

The air filters just a normal rectangular shape, got mine from Halfords for about a tenner I think but price depends on if you want to stick a K&N etc in there.

thanx 4 your response - it came apart as you described, but my filter is 5 sided. just bought one at MINI dealer since local car parts store didn't have it.

'05 Mini. I switched mine out to a K&V. Literature says 1 to 4 hp increase. I could feel a little more pull accelerating at highway speeds.
