2003 Mini Cooper Midland Gear Box Oil Change

Hi,

Only had my Mini Cooper for a few weeks now and at present there are no problems with the gearbox (touches wood). However, having read a few posts re oil changes on this forum I decided to change the gear box oil.

Was relatively straight forward, got the correct MTF 94 oil on ebay (Unipart). The top plug was a bit difficult to losen but it moved eventually. Drained the oil out and here are the magnetic plugs with 56000 miles worth of swarf!!

As I say the gear changes are fine so not sure if I notice a difference but at least it is a job done for another few miles.

Regards

Well worth doing..........I will link your pictures into my other posts on this topic for future reference of others.

Tip: Always loosen off the filler plug on the gearbox first.......otherwise draining the oil out first via the bottom drain plug means if you can't then undo the upper filler plug, the car can not be driven as you have no oil in the gearbox and no way of filling it to take it to a garage for help!

That amount of swarf is normal, you can fill it through the vent if the top plug proves to be tight, just put in a measured amount.....

Just done the gearbox oil change on a 2001 Cooper.
The fill plug was "Holding the car together" tight.
Had to take the wheel off and use a few socket extensions and a pull bar the loosen it.
Filled it back up with Redline MTL.
Gear change now feels a lot smoother.
