Failed on the Freeway - Not engaging into gear

Hello and thank you for reading this!

I was driving my Mini Cooper on the freeway today when all the sudden (no unexpected noises), it slipped out of gear, and didn't go back.

I pulled over, turned the car off, back on, and wouldn't engage into gear. It was as if the car was in neutral. Had to get it towed from there.

Any ideas?? Thank you!

Ben

Is your battery ok? If it is original 2002 it may be failing under some loads and the auto cvt Mini's are very sensitive to battery power. Also a computer re-boot by dis-connecting battery for a short time sometimes re-sets everything so worth a try.

Lots more info to search in the CVT section of Mini2 below:

Thank you, Mab01uk!

I haven't checked on that - the battery in there isn't a great one, I know that. I'll have to look into the idea of disconnecting the battery for a re-boot. Right now, a shop has the car - they said after briefly looking at it, that there's a disruption with the PT-CAN Line... whatever that means. But they'll look at it more tomorrow.

Thank you very much for your input!
Ben
