Should I buy this 2004 Mini Cooper (CTV)? Please help

Hello to all

My roomate is about to sell her mini cooper 2004 (the base model Automatic) to a local dealer at $5000 (CAD). The car is currently 97500 km (about 60 k miles), but still has extended warranty up to oct 2014. She agreed to sell it to me at the same price. I tried to drive her car which is currently in a very good condition, and the brakes and tires are like 95% new. I totally love it!

My roomate's mini has definitely maintained very well. However, I have done some research about the first generation mini coopers' reliability. It was said the car may have a major transmission failure around this mileage. Does that happen to all eventually? Should I buy it or not? Please give me some suggestions.

Irrespective of the reliability of the car I would never buy from nor sell a car to a friend or work colleague.

The slightest thing goes wrong with it and whether or not accusations are made there will always be that niggle that they either knew about it or, if you are the seller, blame you for the fault.

Just my tuppence worth of advice.

I wouldn't say all CVTs eventually fail, but they do seem to have a greater likelihood of doing so. Mine went at just past 100K miles. The bigger problem is not that they will breakdown, but that they are very expensive to repair, 8-10K US dollars.

Surprisingly, I just found that the car's transmission has been rebuilt in 2012, and it's less than 10k km now. Haha, I think it can be a good deal.
