Rear wheel drive cooper???

I just read in the manual the putting the gear selector (for the cvt) in P does the following, "The tranmission locks to prevent the rear wheels from turning."..... Wouldn't that prevent the front wheels from turning? Oh well. BTW, it was on page 50

Let me begin by saying that the US English version of the Owner's Manual is poorly written and in many cases sounds like a direct translation from German = Lotsa confusion.

The CVT when in park locks the front wheels. The hand parking brake, locks the rear wheels. the MINI is a FWD car and always will be, otherwise it would rather be a BMW Series 1 or a 1950's BMW Isetta.

Must have been taken straight from a BMW manual. Cooper's have always been front wheel drive and always will be.

! There must be BMW employees who totally ignore the FWD.
But I´ve heard something similar from an Opel salesman when we picked up my mother´s Astra. He mentioned, using the winter programme of the automatic would prevent the rear wheels from spinning too soon.
