United-Kingdom Engine Revs @ 70 mph

Can anyone tell me what engine revs the Mini Cooper manual is showing on a relatively flat surface at a constant 70mph ?

I just want to compare to my CVT Auto Cooper (which is about 2900 revs at 70mph.

Thanks.

I'd say it's about 3300 RPM at 70 MPH in a manual Cooper.
In comparison a manual One does about 3000 RPM at the same speed .

Theoretically:

5th - 3290
4th - 4064
3rd - 5148
2nd - 7548
1st - 13237

Above are calculated with 15" wheels.

Cooper with CVT would be

5th - 3382
4th - 4178
3rd - 5292
2nd - 7758
1st - 13607

I used the following website to calculate: http://www.xse.com/leres/bin/gearrat...mference=75.26

and http://www.web-cars.com/math/tiresize.html to calculate the tyre circumferance.

Gear ratios are in the MINI brochure.

If you are just reading off the speedo to compare to the revs, it overstates the speed significantly at above 60mph. Best way to get accurate speed is with a GPS.

PMM, thanks for that. The CVT has 6 'virtual' gears, but I presume thats not the whole story as the revs can vary depending on whether your in Drive, Sport Drive or Manual mode.

Ill have a look at the manual and see if I can make sense of it.

Since I got the JCW kit a few weeks ago, 2nd has turned into a killer gear.

Good for anywhere between 20 and 70. The JCW kit just smoothed out the whole range and made it so much more usable.

JCW S, IB/W, Lapis Blue, sunroof etc.
