United-Kingdom Does Yo-Yoing/Lurching/Stuttering affect the Cooper?

Hi,
Forgive me if this has been posted before but I have been searing the forum and seem to find owners of the Cooper S suffering from the above. I have a Mini Cooper with 17Inch wheels and ASC+T with about 7000 miles (So run in). I have noticed that starting from standstill quite hard that I get quite a servere stutter, that if I didnt have my seat belt on whould prolly throw us through the windscreen!! Anyhow is this problem common on the Cooper? and is it to do with the ASC+T or is it a problem to do with the car, if so can it be solved by the dealer, I really like driving it but have to be very careful when trying to beat cars from the lights

Cheers for help, please bear with us as Im a new owner

Hmmm

I noticed that my Cooper had a big flat spot in it's power band at aound 3000-3700 rpm (ie launch revs). I fixed my problem by getting a Superchip (allegedly).

Others have modified their pulling away tactics to overcome this tendency to "bog down" and some say that for a spirited get away you should side step the cluthc at 4000rpm with traction off.

Clearly this is not friendly to your clutch plates, the environment or your tyres so I the other option (the dreaded third way) is not to use full throttle to quickly - too much gas and the inlets seem to choke, causing incomplete combustion which can lead to kangaroo type antics. Feed it in slowly and you'll have a better launch (although not necessarily a speedy one )

S

The yo yo / surging issue most commonly discussed affects only the MCS, b/c it's an issue with the supercharger. What you describe sounds more like what people describe as the "stumble." It was supposed to be fixed by ECU software v.36, which you should have, unless you took delivery more than 6 months ago. Also, I have also read that the traction control can affect take off if you stomp it so much that the traction control kicks in...

Lots more threads on this subject. Try a search for "stumble" and see if those threads describe what you are experiencing...

Bummer for the troubles!

Sounds to me that you've got a genuine issue if either of the previous posts don't answer your querie. Seek medical advice.

S_and_M is spot on with the dead zone, although above 3,800-4,000 rpm things get much more fun...

If you can't be good... be good at it!
