Retro fitting OEM alarm to Cooper

Hi folks,

I've found a few threads on being able to retro fit OEM alarms to American Minis. Is it possible to do it to UK spec Minis?

If not, can anyone recommend a 3rd party alarm they have fitted?

cheers

Hi,

The alarm can be fitted after market but i think the going rate is approx £550 as my dealer had sent me literature in the Post. Glad I opted for the Factory installed version for £200 now
regarding 3rd Party alarms, Clifford I think are very good company.

How many of you out there opted for security??

Would prefer not to get this, as I can't stand alarms triggered.
However, never having a car that was too coveted....curious whether this is something I need to reconsider...
ordering my Cooper w/it?

Opinions on this option??
Thanks! :-)

The only time mine alarms have gone off accidentally was when I was on a Ferry and I never heard it but the light was flashing away when I returned.
On the Hard Top MINI's it is actually quite hard to set the alarm off-i.e by nudging car etc so you don't get any falso alrams of such.
Deffinately opt for the MINI system as it is a Category 1 Thatcham which will lower your insurance

If you check out the "accessorise your mini" section of the mini.co.uk website you'll see that the OEM alarm can be retro fitted from £170.

hehe true
and the price I have just had quote to fit the OEM spots is £215, which is for approx 2 - 3 hours labour (on top of the purchase price of £145!) I somehow don't think I'll be having the OEM alarm retro-fitted anytime soon!! I'll just sleep in the car with a baseball bat
