Scotland Hi Newbie Here!!

Hi Everyone

First time visiting the site and I just wanted to say what a wonderful way of spending a Friday evening. Okay, to the nitty gritty and my reason for posting.

I'm in the process of trying to order my 1st company car. I have worked really hard for this and the only car that comes into my head is a Mini. I learned to drive in a classic Mini and this is where my love affair began! So, I now have the means of getting my dream car, I have a problem........I can't decide what I actually want!

Should I go for a Mini Cooper or a Mini Cooper S? My initial view is to stick with my first choice which was the Mini Cooper!

What colour? I really like the red with the white roof but do you think it's a bit popular? I also like the hyper blue?

Would you recommend going for the CHILE pack?

I have spent the whole night with the Mini spec and i'm now tearing my hair out!

Any advice

Jay x

Hi Jay and welcome to MINI2

The S is obviously more expensive to run but if the company pay for most of it then it that probably isn't an issue? How many miles do you usually travel in a week?
You could be tempted to put your foot down in the S and don't want to risk points on your licence

I'd go for Hyper Blue, but that's cos blue is my favourite colour, but the Mini looks great in Chili Red. We've got the Chili Pack on ours and would recommend it thought I'm not sure what it includes now.

Choices, choices.... good luck deciding

Hi Jay

Welcome to MINI2

I suggest you go for the S. A lot of people end up upgrading to an S or wanting an S after a while anyway. The extra power is always enjoyable, but also convenient. The S revs lower at cruising speeds, which is a pleasure as well.

When it comes to colour, the best thing you can do is go for the one you want. Even though some colours are more popular than others, you'll quite possibly see other MINIs with your colour no matter what you go for (unless they personalize it further, aftermarket). Go with the one that you like the most, because part of the reward is looking at the car and feeling good about it.

Take your time if you can. Make sure that you go for what you wanted. I understand the feeling. I took a long time to decide what colour I wanted, and what options I was going to go for. Fortunately, I can say that I am completely happy with my decision.

Hi Jay and welcome to MINI2!

There is no wrong choice, there are many advantages to both the MC and MCS. It depends more on how you plan to use your car.

And the reason you see so many red/white Coopers is because it's a lovely combo.

Good Luck

Hi Jay,

The Cooper or Cooper S choice is a tough one, and oft' debated!

As this is going to be a company car - what will you be using it for?

If it's going to be used for long journeys then the extra power of the S might make sense, the down side will be filling up more often! Longer journeys often mean that you might want more creature comforts (i.e. increased spec) which could increase the value of the S to levels that are either too much a month under your company car scheme, or make the P11d value of the car exhorbitant. Also, the CO2 emissions from an S are significantly higher - which will also bump your tax up.
(If none of the above makes any sense, speak to someone in your company who already has a company car, they should be able to explain!)

Now it could be that tax, filling up etc make no difference to you. This coupled with the fact that it's a company car means that insurance won't be a problem either. So, most (but not all) of the reasons people go for a Cooper are discounted. I guess then you just need to test the two and make your choice...

...either way, you won't be disappointed!

If you can't be good... be good at it!

Hi .... welcome to Mini2!
I eventually chose a Cooper against a Cooper S even though I loved the look of the Cooper S and the dark silver colour. I chose the Cooper mainly because of fuel consumption and insurance costs. I am sure I will be happy with my Cooper which I am collecting on 1st September. I went for silver with black roof and a chili pack as I loved the leather/cloth sports seats and the little extras.
Check out various write-ups of Cooper versus Cooper S and then decide.
I am sure you will have fun whatever you choose ... perhaps go with your heart and not your head!!! Mind you, my head ruled me this time - next time ... well who knows???
