Dealer scratched my car

My 14 month old Mini spent last week with the dealer for some warranty work. I went to collect the car on Saturday, only to find some very large key scratches on the drivers door.

The dealer has currently accepted the liability for the scratches and is currently looking into the options for repair.

Has anyone else had similar experiences and, if so, can you give me any tips to ensure that the repair is completed satisfactory?

Also, if the dealer does start to get funny about who is liable, what options are available to me (in the UK)?

Thanks

I wonder if it's worth them putting it in writing that they are responsible? Could help, but could also annoy them and make them get funny...

my car got delivered with a one inch scratch on it...the dealer said they would sort it...they didnt take it to the body shop and got a stone chip bloke in to fix it...the result was rubbish and it then made my side vent loose.

2nd time around the whole panel was replaced and resprayed and it was as good as new.

as long as yours is as good as new and the dealer should be very capable of this then theres no worries, but perhaps its worth mentioning that you expect it and everything else that gets touched to be perfect...

i think it was my dealer just being a ****...but best to make sure eh

when i first bought my year old MINI One there were a couple of chips in the bonnet. The dealer told me they could be easily buffed out, when i got the car back they looked much worse and bigger! i just don't care about them anymore

So far as I understand it when you hand over the keys to a dealer that car is their responsibility to look after it and is covered by their insurance and anything that happens to it.

Well thats what my insurance company told me since I dont need to insure the car when its in for work if I need to have a temporary car they just change the insurance over for a couple of days. The problems with being young and not covered by dealers insurance on cars they lend you.

its good practice to ask the dealer to do a condition report on your car when you drop it off. I always ask and they always oblige. This way you have a documented record incase you find damage when you collect your car.
