Cooper S Bonnet Scoop

Hi,

Im very new to Mini's and to cars as well so this might be an extremely dumb question. I was wanting to find out if its possible to get the Cooper S scoop fitted on a Cooper. I was guessing the only way would be to have the whole bonnet changed but I thought I would check anyway. I know it wouldnt actually perform on a cooper but I really like the look of it.

Thanks

I think the only way to do it is to change the whole bonnet, so as not to bodge it. As far as I know it will fit fine but obviously expensive. And if ypu have xenon AND spotlights on a MCS, you need to change the bonnet support strut to cope with the extra weight. Otherwise, buy the scoop insert separately and get a decent bodyshop to fit it - MINI wont touch it. Lastly, check in case there are any restrictions on this kind of thing in England - in Spain they'd call it "a modification to the vehicle's physical profile" and fail the MOT!!!

yeah, but his question was about fitting it to a Cooper, not an S. With all due respect, of course it was easy to fit on an MCS.

Several people have done this and they did as you say, changed the complete bonnet
You'll need to block the hole though, or your engine bay will be covered in dirt

I hope Markwmc is planning on doing the work himself and can maybe source the bonnet from a junkyard or something. Because if he bought a NEW bonnet with the scoop, and had somebody do the fitting and painting, the overall cost might be more than if he had bought a Cooper S in the first place.

Also, fitting the scoop on the Cooper bonnet might be a problem because I think the bonnet on the S is actually taller. The slope of the scoop would require extensive bodywork to integrate.

Hi Beken,

I hadnt really thought that much about it, I was just trying to get a feel for how easy/hard it was to do. It seems as thought its not really worth the hassle though. I can think of a lot of other things I would rather spend the time and money on. Thanks for the replies though
