I thought the colour of the lights might be the main give away! Xenons tend to havd a bluish/white light to them.

On facelift Mini's you can just look at the headlight to see if you have Xenons.

The older ones have a more yellowish light rather white light - according to my dealer.

You can also look at the headlight lens, if it has H7 inscribed on it then you have Halogen not Xenon.
You can get a Xenon look by replacing the bulbs with something like the Phillips Power-Blue bulbs e.g. from Powerbulbs.com. Had them in my old car and the light they gave off was much nicer than the standard Halogen, fairly white with a slight blue tinge, but not to bright blue chav levels!

What new bits? I didn't buy any new bits...

I think you can get halogens with washers, but don't let me confuse matters...

Hmm i have an 06 mini and really think i should have had the Xenons.
Now its delivered and too late

Could i install the new facelift Xenons myself? If so any ideas on what 2 do?
If not i think i saw a BMW place that could install them for £500.00

I know that BMW wanted about £1200 to install them.

You should look for these bits (for older model) behind the light

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...23&hg=63&fg=05

and a high voltage warning sticker

The short answer is yes. The long answer is no. If you were to buy the xenon units, these are pretty much plug and play. The problem is that to meet legal requirements, they must be connected to suspension sensors so they can automatically level, as well as be connected to the washer system. The washer part may be relatively easy, but the suspension part more difficult. I've certainly not read of anyone installing them completely; only simply swapping the actual units.

The place that will fit them for £500 will most likely only fit the xenon units. BMW most probably want to charge £1,200 as the labour will probably be quite high, not to mention the cost of the parts.

You could consider installing something like this instead:
