Strange marks on paint

I've recently bought an 05-plate JCW, which as you can imagine has picked up a few stone chips in the last 12 months. Unfortunately, the plonker who had it previously has touched these up... on a pepper white car... with brilliant white paint.

That aside, around each chip, there's some slight discolouration/yellowing to the paint, about the size of a thumb print. Anyone got any idea what this might be, and whether or not it'll polish out? I will probably get the bonnet resprayed at some stage, but I'm looking for a quick fix for now....

Probably tree sap stains! You can get stuff from Halfords, think is the product for tar and bug removal - or just do a google search for tree sap stains on car paint.

The stains are only around the chips though - nowhere else.

Sounds like the chips were not covered up very quickly (perhaps painted just before it was sold?) and it could be slight rust?

That was my first thought... I'll give it a good polish this weekend, see how it goes.

Will need a respray eventually though I think.
