I've just bought the same kit on fleebay and had to order a wiring kit as i found 1 wasn't included
couple of questions
Since there aren't any templates for the brackets is it obvious how they fit/ where to drill?
There's just 1 wire from each lamp - i asume this is the positive so how do you earth them?

Thanks

Hi Robby
Have a look at these instructions for fitting BMW spot lights. Ignore everything but have a look at section 5 where it tells you the measurements and where to drill holes.
www. BMW_Driving_lamp_install.pdf

I had a look at the wipac wiring kits but ended up making my own as i wanted a fused relay and didnt want to use the switch they included.

Anyway... its all straight forward once you get started.

The Wipac lights earth themselves inside the housing which inturn earths through the brackets and through the screws/rivets used to fasten to the car body.

Have a look at the wiring diagram Richard provided. Note:... make sure you get the relay which is the same.. otherwise the wiring will be slightly different. Incidently.. my relay was slightly different... basically the 85 & 86 were the opposite way around.

Post your pics once youve finished.. If you have any questions.. post them too!

Goodluck!

Yeah, make sure you match the numbers (i.e. ignore the ordering!) My diagram is for the Wipac relay only as I am unsure of what other kits come like.

Robby71, the drilling takes a bit of force but be careful not to put so much on that you end up going through the grill above. What I did for the drilling was get a very fine drill bit first to drill a starter hole & then the point of the larger drill bit will sit in the hole making it easier to drill the final hole. If you go stright for the large hole the drill bit can squirm around making it a tad difficult.

Robby71, as Mini Mic says, just shout if you need any help or info!

I just recieved my set of quad Wipac lights in post. The instructions are terrible for fitting them. The electrical side is ok, as i was an electriian in a previous life, but the bit where you have to drill out for the brackets kind of scares me especially as the re are no diagrams

Call in at Ouston and fit mine will you MINI MIC Car's currently in workshop getting fixed but wouldn't mind seeing how it's done before I do it to mine next month .

Went to the NEMC years ago, but was a but cliquey and not very open. Is it changed? - I'm probably getting a matching classic soon to the Velveteer, so at least I won't be one of those BMW mini drivers!!

Robboc, I had no diagram, I set mine up using 4 brackets, the other alternative is to use the bar which is only attached at 2 points and would indicate where the brackets would have to go. When fitting four brackets there is only pretty much one place that each bracket can go. Just push them through and line them up yourself.

My brackets are right by each other but one of each on either side i.e. on each side of the car I have bracket that goes to the left and one that goes to the right. Also make sure that where the nut/bolt or self tappins screw will come up through is not obstructed by one of the uprights on the grill.

Hi Monkeyhanger
The NEMC is under new management as of 1-2 year ago... Its a great improvement over previous attempts to make it better.. Its no longerthe clickey atmosphere it used to be.
Get yourself along! You'll be impressed with the amount of Minis and Binis that attend the club.

Richard...... Stamfordham??? ah im guessing you dont live in Newcastle upon Tyne? Thats where i assumed you lived.

Well, not technically, but it's part of my postal address! I live in Ponteland, by Newcastle airport, there are two Ouston's in the region:

Searching for ouston found 2 places

I am quite near number 1!

Hi All, very informative, thank you all for the info, I too bought mine off ebay and obtained the Relay and connectors from local spares shop, Fitted them yesterday took around 2.1/2Hours.
One thing though I have seen on some post's that BMW have to activate them and make a changes to the ECU
whats all that about???

If you use BMW wiring loom you have to get BMW to activate as it doesn't just splice into the main beam wire
