I got mine done in a local sprayers and repairs and they done such a good job. BMW quoted me too much and ive heard they rush thing and the paint isnt even. i got my roof and all arches done on my budykit and it came up to £450. Bargain if you ask me, the took just two day on my mini to get it done, but they did do it quicker because it got delayed 1st time, but shows they can do it fast and a good job. Only thing is my break light cover fell off, but other than that great job. Mark WENT- StJohn's in Camberley

Colour-coding primed Aero Kits is actually easier to do than 'normal' ones, as the bodyshop does not have to try and match the black of the wheelarches with paint, but just paint the whole thing one colour. Any bodyshop can match the (new) paint colour as the codes used are universal, the only difficulty is matching 'old' paint that has been on the car for years, but even that shouldn't be an issue with MINI as it has only been around for a little over 5 years. If the Aero Kit is a pre-painted one it will be more of a time-consuming job, as the black paint to match the wheelarches will need to be removed and then the area re-painted to match the body colour. Hope this helps?

Scrogg, thanks that does help. I have been quoted £581 pounds and 4 days, but unfortunately they are in Essex which isn't that local, but they did confirm that they would have to repaint the whole of the rear and back bumpers again due to the fact that the texture parts are fixed. So this price probably isn't bad and I do know that they are good, was just hoping for somewhere a bit closer to home.

Might be worth looking at what the new plastic arches cost from BMW? Also do them in primer / smooth? That way less likely to peel with contamination from silicone bumper cleaning products etc that's soaked into them! And if your buying a primed aerokit it can all be painted at the same time and then the car is not in the garage for 4 days! Half a day at most reading the instructions for fitting an aerokit. The plastic arches just simply clip to the car, so def. could be a diy fitting job? As I found out when the passenger side rear one came off when i was tryin to remove the internal wheel arch to fit an S filler cap a few eeks ago!

Can't be done, I'm afraid! Aero Kits are either pre-painted from the factory or primed. Primed ones are better suited to be fully colour-coded as matching the black of the wheelarches (and getting the paint to stay on) is less than easy! BMW just don't do the wheelarch extensions for the Aero Kit.

I think were getting our wires crossed! But wouldn't they also need the wheel arch mouldings painted to go colour coded? The kit is not yet fitted to the car and brand new? Could ask where they bought it from if they could be oh so kind and swap for one in primer? I meant the actual wheel arch mouldings on the wings not the bumpers which also need to be sprayed if colour coding and the end of the sero side skirts? Ie buy these from BMW and then the body kit can go in for spraying without the car, then be fitted? Saves the car sitting there waiting for the arches to be sprayed when they just clip on the wings!

I think we are to! From re-reading Vickie's original post, she has got a painted Aero Kit with black bits to match the wheelarches. I now see your point about getting replacement wheelarches painted first so, yes, good idea (this would also mean the original bumpers and wheelarches could be put back on at a later date if needed!) I'll shut up now!

For a minute i thought i was talking rubbish! I knew i'd get what I meant explained properly in the end! Now how easy is it to mask and spray the bits that are meant to be black on a primered aero bumper? I think our LY cooper would look cracking with the Lower trim and aeroskirts in gloss black like the silver S that was posted the other day? |
| ||||
Painting a primed Aero Kit all one colour (any colour) is easy compared to trying to paint the bits to match the wheelarches, as you are trying to copy the colour of matt black plastic rather than paint.

We're getting our wires crossed again mate! I meant New front and rear Aero Bumpers in primer - sprayed Liquid Yellow and Gloss Black where they are meant to be Matt black on factory painted ones! Wheel Arch extensions sprayed gloss black Primered Aerosideskirts (if there available?) sprayed gloss black All to match the black roof! As i've seen fully coded yellow and it's just tooo much IMO! I'll look for the pic of the silver S painted up like this tomorrow, might be easier!

Shall we just give up then? See if you'd said all this last time I would've known what you meant! This sounds like a fairly easy thing to do, just like a full colour-code but with two colours. Would just need to mask off the bits that you want black when painting the yellow, and then vice versa. Painting the wheel arches is the same job regardless of colour, they just need 'smoothing' before being painted so that the finish is the same all the way round. And yes, this would look sweet on a Liquid Yellow!

Well this thread now makes interesting reading!! Thanks for all your help. You are right I haven't got the kit fitted yet and it is not primed. I was hoping to get it fitted before I go away and then get the colour coding done early next year when I have some more cash, but your suggestions have got me thinking about how maybe I should wait. Decisions, decisions!! It does sound like a good idea to get the arches painted and this would save time. I think that is the issue I have is the time they might need to have my car.Anyway it would still be good to have a some more suggestion of places in Surrey or even Middlesex that get the thumbs up. Cheers
