Roof Colour

Hi Guys and Girls,

1st post so be gentle. I am currently looking at a Mini Cooper S with white roof, sunroof and chrome mirrors.

I like the mirrors and want a sunroof but hate the white roof. How easy is it to get it painted black and has anyone else done this ?

Great colour choice

I imagine it will be fiddly to get a proper job done with a sunroof, but any good bodyshop will be able to give you a quote.
I wouldn't really recommend spraying it with the sunroof in place as it will be almost impossible to mask off properly. Also you are bound to get shrinkage of the sunroof seals with time, which will then reveal a white edge.

Thanks for the reply, Must be a black roof so if I can't colour code it will be a no no to the car...has any one done this ??

It may also affect resale as people may not want to buy a car that has had its roof sprayed another colour by someone other than BMW. My advice would be to search and find one with the spec you want... There should be a few around as many people are trading in ready for the new model.

i have seen one done with a sunroof with a chequered roof add a set of chequered mirror caps and that would look cool.. you would then loose the whole white roof..maybe another option..

I had my roof and spoiler done in white for when i collected my car (new) done by the BMW-MINI body shop for £600

However if it was a second hand car i wouldnt have bothered - id have searched for a car with the spec/colours i wanted, or as vinniecooper says, had a roof graphic to cover it.

Sticker is an option...I like the black and silver union jack one...could I get one even if it has a sunroof.....this car is mega cheap and has the spec I want or I would not bother !

Yes, I have seen them done... They obviously do not look as good as they would painted but it is a much cheaper way to go for you and for resales...

think it would be the best way to go in the long run.and you could change it when you get fed up with it to somthing different.and would be better for resale.and you said you liked the black and grey union jack there was a set of mirror caps just sold on ebay with this custom sprayed on them.

Well i no exactly what you are goin through , i had a blue roof on my ONE and had a runroof, i wanted it black to make it look better and to it down to my local coachworks in surrey and got a respray on my roof a new cooperS spoiler, and also colour coding all for £450.
Bargain and the job was top notch havent seen a better job since, showing to all you people that said it would look shody that it doesnt looks wicked just do it mate.
