Talking Magnetic bonnet stripes, are they good?

Ordered a pair of magnetic bonnet stripes from minimania.com, but was told by the dealer that they might damage the paint. Has anyone used the magnetic stripes sold by them? Are they any good? Do I need to remove them when it rains?

I was told that I can order the ones sold by cooperflags.com and those are better, is it true? Can I install them myself? Thanks for your help.

first answer to 'can I install them myself?' they are magnetic. if you can't install them you probably should not try to pump your own petrol either... =P

The big problem is they can't hang on at 300kph..

I don't think they will hurt the paint. The only problem I've heard of is that sometimes they do come off at high speeds.

You could always just put them on for around town or car shows, and take them off for interstate travel.

White Cooper Magnetic Stripes

Bought them for our Mini. Per instructions you must remove them before Washing. When i removed them , i noticed marks on the Paint & i had to Rub them out each time i washed the Car. Also, when it got really HOT from either Air Temp / Engine the Magnetic stripes would BUBBLE badly. I took them off & threw them away. Waste of MONEY

I wouldn't like them on my car, as when you put them on and off-it may scratch the paint if there is dust grit underneath them.
Go for stickers

Manetic stripes

Magnetic stripes are for people that cannot decide what they want .

You either want stripes or you dont .

If you want them make them permanent.

If you dont forget it .

Thanks, I meant to ask if I can install or apply the permanet stripes sold by cooperflags.com myself. Are they really permanent? Can I remove them if one day I decide that I don't want them? I know, I know that I need to make up my mind, but hey man, it is hard, I love my MINI with or without the stripes!

all good comments so far.....

yes magnetic stripes should really only be used if you can't decide, if you decide you like them then get the real deal

yes they can come off a speed, if not fitted correctly, I had this happen to me, was amusing seeing the stripe hit the car behind that had been tailgating me

yes they can mark the paint in two ways, grit, you must ensure there is nothing between the stripe and the paint, as this will act as an abrashive and scuff the paint work. The other way is that when they have been on for some time moisture will build up, and the laquer will look misty so you have to remove them every few weeks to allow the paint to get air and this will prevent the marks been permanent.

I still have mine, they are a now a fridge magnet

They aren't hard to install - very much like installing window tint. However, there is a very good chance you will mess them up the first time you try. you may want to have a local window tint place install them for you. shouldn't be expensive.
You can easily remove them later if you want. I'd jsut be concerned that the paint around the stipes may fade a bit after a long while and when you pulled off the stripes you'd be able to tell the difference.

Oooh, I want white viper stripe on the black fridge.

Then I could only put High-test food in it. Might have to add an aero kit too.
