First pics of Union Jack roof decal, with sunroof?

Well I was very brave this week and installed the CarVogue roof decal on my 11 day old Cooper S.

Maiden voyage was this morning and I took this picture. I'll take some more once I've had chance to clean the car, and the sun is shining.

Overall, I'm really pleased with the result. Particularly that it should reduce some of the heat entering the car, while still allowing some light through the sunroof. It also disguises the black sun roof quite well.

What do you all think?

Steve

Nice car ... and
really nice job from Carvogue.
They had to do a lot of cutting I guess.

I assume you can't see through the roof now?

Any possible pictures with the roof open?

Congratulations with your car.

Morty

Looks good Steve. I've never liked the black sunroof on a white roof but this does the job just fine. Happy motoring

Thanks guys.

Morty - You can still see throught the sunroof. The decal over the glass is perforated. The view from inside is similar to it was without the decal, but with the internal blind closed.

I really did not want to loose all of the light entering the car as it really brightens the interior up.

I'll post some more photos later.

Talking Steve,

How about a shot of the roof from inside (open & closed).

Thanks,

Alex.

OK I took a few more photos and uploaded them to a gallery. There are now 3 shots with roof closed, 3 with roof open, and then 3 shots from inside the car looking through the sunroof with it both open and closed.

Any more requests, let me know and I'll do my best!

Cheers

Steve

PS - I loaded the Sven-Goran Erikson classics CD compliation into my MINI CD changer last night (in preparation for Saturday's match), and as I was taking these photos, Rule Britannia started playing! How appropriate.

nice! i've been one of the people suggesting that white roof and sunroof don't mix, and that i doubt a perforated white roof decal would do anything much to fix it - happy to say i was wrong. this looks spiffing.

I'm glad to finally see pic of this as I'll have a white top and sun roof. This looks really great. Now I need to settle on the design. thanks steve!

Wow, that's GREAT! What did it cost, and how was the installation?

Texan. Goofy. Sometimes witty. Pacifist. Imperfect, nice guy. Trying.

Wynn

Thanks. I'm very pleased with the result

I'd need to check my credit card statement to tell you the exact price, and I purchased the bonnet stripes at the same time, but I think the roof decal was approx GBP 250 (around US$375).

This is a lot more expensive than a regular decal, but when you see the perforated decal that fits over the sunroof, you can see why. It is basically a vinyl decal that has been perforated and laminated with a glossy film that makes it look like a paint job. The quality of this is really good and is worth paying for in my opinion. This is the reason it hides the sunroof so well, and still allows light into the car.

Carvogue supplied some very comprehensive fitting instructions and I opted to install the decal "wet". You spray a fine water and soap solution on the the adhesive side of the decal and onto the roof, then position the decal on top. You can move the decal around a bit to get the right position, and then smooth out all the bubbles, pull of the backing paper and then check the bubbles are all gone.

It is very similar to hanging wallpaper

The decal was in three parts. One for each of the glass panels on the roof, and another for the outside.

Total installation time was about 5 hours, but we were not in a rush. I recommend that you get some help. It is a two person job.
