Mine are still to be fitted but the bulbs in mine are H1.
Got mine from Mikey @
NewMINIStuff.com and he suggested the Night Breaker Bulbs.

Be careful with 100W bulbs as they arn't strictly legal and could fail your MOT! just a heads up in case you know

Got to be careful about disconnecting your lights on the bumper.
Originally with the R50-R53 MINI, they intended to have the side lights and indicators in the main lense, however due do vehicle standard laws (or whatever they're called) they were not allowed.
This was because when the bonnet was up the indicators and side lights where not visible. Meaning in the event of a breakdown at night no lights are visible at the front.
The R56 MINI's get away with it as the lights don't lift up with the bonnet.

Actually I have a quick question about this.
Is it ok to change the bulbs in these units to brighter bulbs?? Will the halo stay the same halogen colour regardless??
And also, what bulbs are best to go for just for replacing the normal ones with for a brighter look?
Thanks
