wing mirror, mirror/shell removal. the wing mirrors come off without a problem - 3 torq bolts. But, I cant figure out how to get the mirror (just the glass part) out/off, so that I can get at the tabs to remove the shell. also, if anyone knows: how many different type wing mirrors are there? break away (us) and non-breakaway (euro)? The ones that I bought and painted, have a slightly different size connector on them (doh!). -johnny Last edited by Refrigerator Johnny; Oct 24th, 2002 at 02:01 PM.

I just got back from the dealer parts department with info. getting the mirror (glass) off: push at the top all the way in. from the bottom, pull off the mirror. it should snap out. the wing mirror part number: I have an 03. dealer parts software is 02. There is only one part number for the MC or MCS break away wing mirror. maybe they changed it for 03? I'm gonna have to hack the connector/wiring. -johnny

I think they changed the part for 03. There are 2 less pins in the connector now. Also missing, are two wires that go into the base. I just used the connector from the 03. clipped the 2 extra wires on the 02. I probably should have taken pictures, just in case someone actually needs to make sense of my rambling. -johnny

thank for responding! I was going insane talking to myself. They are just the regular MC (us) mirrors. I wanted them painted the body color. I ordered them before I got the car, with the idea that I would start swapping body color parts as soon as I got the car. (thats why I just didnt take them off the car, and get them painted). -johnny

Looks great!!! I wouldnt mind all my black bits painted body colour except I have electric blue and cant decide if it would look good or not. Let me know how them painted wheel arches hold up, I was told that paint is difficult to stick to textured plastic surfaces. What other mods have you done?

thread with more pictures So far, just the paint. I'd like to do the exhaust and air filter next. -johnny

Here's a pic of an EB that was at the local BMW CCA races last weekend. Maybe that will help you to decide !http://www.minicooperonline.com/albu.../aat.sized.jpg

Stunning! The Pepper White paint against the chrome bits (door handle, headlight trim) really is to my liking. A very nice MINI indeed. + 2002 MINI Cooper S - Dark Silver / White roof, Sport, Premium, Lapis blue leather + 1965 Mini Traveller - Tartan Red / White roof, 1275, Cooper S discs, fully restored/renewed

Hi everyone Well today is my birthday and I received a pair of black and white checkered mirror caps for my birthday. Being that I do most of my work myself, I figured, how hard could it be putting a pair of mirror caps on. First I looked for this tread telling how to remove the mirror glass and could not find it. So, I tried removing the mirror glass from the side and of course the mirror cracked, but didn't come off. So, I said OK, I'll do like many of the posts say and replace the caps with a spoon etc. In my case I found a sharp knife slid under the tabs the best and getting the old cap off was not much of a problem at all. But, putting the new caps on became a disaster as the new caps are black inside so even with a flashlight you can't see much. So, of course I broke off the tabs on the top. Then I found the instructions above on removing the mirror glass. Push at the top all the way in. from the bottom, pull off the mirror. it should snap out. If you have fat fingers as I, getting your fingers in under the mirror glass to pull out at the bottom was tuff but I was successful. Now you can really see what is going on. Quite upset at first, I fell back on my coal miner ingenuity and figured out how to salvage the cap. First I drilled a hole in two of the solid tabs sticking out inside the cap itself. Then I found some of that plastic coated wire they use to hold toys to the cardboard box. Threaded the wire through the holes in the tabs I had drilled, put the cap in place feeding the wires through the holes where the original tabs were to go and then twisted the two sets of wires to gether with a pair of needle nose pliers until snug. Popped the broken mirror glass back in place and it was done. After popping the mirror glass out of the passenger side mirror, I was able to get the old cap off and the new one snapped properly in place with in 5 minutes.Interesting thing is as others have complained about, the passenger side cap is loose even though all tabs are locked into place. The drivers side cap which I wired into place is snug and tight as the originals. So, once I get the new mirror glass and decide to take time to fix the mirrors, I will pop the passengers side cap off, drill the tabs and wire it into place also.

hi refrigerator johnny, must say those color coded parts do look great!. i've recently just posted another thread, where i suspect my mirrors are placed upside down. As i have no idea how the mirror connects at the back would you say i should push at the bottom and pull from the top of my mirror if it is upside down? or shouldnt it make a difference? ie... is it dependent on the mirror orientation or what ever holds the mirror at the back?? and just wondering how does the mirror go back on?? cheers Jono
