Major Sunroof Problems.

Hi Guys,

This is my first post and am hoping someone can give me some advice etc.

I have a 2002 Cooper S and 2 days ago I opened my sunroof for the first time this year (i did open/close it briefly to make sure it was all in order a few weeks ago when it stopped raining for more than 30 seconds and it was all fine besides its normal slow juddery closing) but the usage the other day was prob 15 mins or so on my quick drive home from work.

When i tried closing the sunroof it was very sluggish, juddery and slow and when it got half way it stopped and opened up again (the action of opening is fine i.e no juddering slowness etc) so i tried again. it did the same but this time it didnt even reach half way. each time i tried it went less of a distance before opening.

I looked in the manual and located the manual open/close section under my clock but it was VERY VERY difficult to move, so i left it for my dad when he returned from work.

we finally managed to close it with me holding the button and my dad very slightly putting pressure on the glass from the outside and easing it forward. The final 2 inches of closing we did manually with a lots of swearing .

I know we probably shouldnt of made it close but i had no choice to make it secure.

I am now however scared to open it.

does anyone have any ideas what could cause this and/or what the remedy is.

Thanks in advance

Amy x

I would guess either the tracks are dry/dirty or the motor is faulty.

I would make sure all the tracks etc are clean and then give them a spray with silicon lubricant to see if that eases the movement of the sunroof.
