Auto wipers

Morning all,
I have automative wipers. However when i get in the car and start to drive they dont work straight away. I have to pull the stalk downwards so it quick wipes and then return it to the central position. From then on it works perfectly fine. I have to do this everytime the car is turned off and on again. Is this normal?

Also the wipers seems awefully sensative. On very fine rain they come on intermittantly which is perfect but then they change to a constant fairly quick wipe which gets annoying. Is this also normal or do i have a fault here? Anyways to adjust the sensitivity at all?

Your help is much appreciated.

Is the widscreen MINI glass or has it been replaced? (look at the logo on the windscreen and you should see MINI wings). If not let us know what kind of glass it is.

The on/off operation is correct. They will automatically shut off when you turn the car off and not come back on. This is a safety feature (protection from ice or a carwash). To turn the auto on, just move the stalk to the off position (all the way down) and the back up one notch for the auto.

The fast when it is barley raining is a different matter. I would like to know if the windscreen has been replaced as the sensor (black box in front of the rearview mirror) could be bad or be having issues. I had my screen replaced and the sensor was horrible so I had them do it again. Sadly the sensor is mounted at the factory and can't be replaced without replacing the window.

Many thanks for the reply. the black box cover did feel loose, so perhaps it has been altered in some way. Its very perculiar. It will work on a intermittent wipe for very soft rain as it should then turn into a more regular wipe when there is clearly no need. If i reset the wiper it will go back to the intermittent wipe for a while amd then back to the annoying regular. With heavy rain the wipers seem fine.

Ill check the windscreen and report back - just checked and it has the officially mini logo. I also noticed where the sensor is and im thinking the wipers are not cleaning the rain properly from that area which may be causing the problems. I will investigate further.

Mine work great, in fact, I never use the regular settings. If the sensor is damaged (he stated it was loose) then that would be the problem. The only time I had a problem is when I had the windscreen replaced and the sensor in the new windscreen was bad. Once it was replaced again (next day) it went back to working normally.

Sorry that you hate them but your comment doesn't help the OP.

I only got mine as they were part of the Visibility package but now I have them I wouldn't be without them. They wipe at just the right speed under all weathers/conditions. The only problem is very minor. If you set them at night in a bright city and drive into the dark you have to reset them. Or is it if you set them in the dark and drive into a bright city? It's one or the other.

Some people are like a Slinky ........ not really good for anything, but you still can't help
but smile when you shove them down the stairs

Then it sound like the sensor has gone bad. Sadly, the only way to fix this is to replace the glass. If you just got the car I would go back and complain about it and see if there is something they will do for you.
