I've just been pimping out my mini with a Nightrider style LED bonnet scoop light and thought i'd post the results. Initially i had just installed it with a simple on and off switch in the dash but have subsequently installed an "auto" switch that means the light turns on when the interior lights do. You may think it's sad but i love it! haha, I can now control the light by locking and unlocking the car
Here's how i done it:
This is the wiring diagram i made, it's fairly complicated and probably over complicated but it does exactly what i want it to.
This is where i can control the light. the Mode switch scrolls though 7 different flash styles, the illuminated switch show whether the LED will go on when the interior lights do. (if i turn this off the light won't go on at all) and the switch on the right is a manual on/off switch.
Some of the wiring:
And here's what it looks like turned on:
with the light on constant you can show off the engine with a red glow
close up with the light full on
full view of my baby :P
Hope you like it

I guess it does effect air flow slightly, whether it does enough to effect cooling is another thing. If it does, i certainly can't tell the difference in power
The actual light sits pretty flush in the bonnet so you can still pass your hand through the hole. You can't really see the light it self, it's the reflection off the shinny plastic you see.
