Replaced Spotlights - not working

Hi All,

I have just replaced the four spots on my o/h's Cooper S as they were the chrome ones which had gone rusty. One rusted so bad it just snapped off a few weeks ago!

As it is a black car I bought a set of 4 black spots from ebay. The brackets/wiring etc are all there from the previous spots so just a simple replacement job I assumed.

Two of them were like for like replacements very easy, the other (older two) were a b***h to get off, had to resort to a hacksaw, but got there in the end. Plus the connectors on these two were different so I just re-crimped the ends with the old connectors and used the old bulbs.

Problem is now that they don't come on with main beam. Rather foolishly in hindsight, I didn't check if they were working before I started the job, so I don't know if they were not working anyway, or they have stopped working due to the replacement. I did try them when I had replaced only two of them and they weren't working then.

As far as we are aware they were working, but as they aren't used very often we can't categorically say when they were last working.

Has anyone got any quick suggestions to check as to why they are not working. I presume they are wired into the main loom but are they on a separate fuse?

you first need to see if you are getting power at the spotlight when switched on, using a test light or voltmeter, etc

how are the four spots wired ?

Thanks for the replies

No power at the lights, traced the cables back to where there relay was fitted, checked the fuse and it had blown. Replaced it with a spare 15A and working fine.
