Possible Earthing Problem With Rear Lights???

Hi Guys,

Looking for some advice please. My rear lights are not behaving. Right break light works intermittently. Left indicator works intermittently. When I break the reverse lights also come.

(54 plate Cooper S convertible)

I have checked the bulbs and they all seem aok.
I have a feeling the earthing might be an issue but I'm not sure. I'd rather avoid the hefty cost of an auto-electrician. Is it easy to trace the earth and work back from there or should I go to a Mini dealer (again I'd rather avoid massive cost).

Many Thanks in Advance

Other lights coming on with the "brake" lights is definitely some sort of earth fault it appears, normally at the light unit itself, check the rear of the light units for any earth wire that might be loose or need a clean and check light unit to body fixings also just in case the units earth through their fixings nuts/screws and give them a clean too.
Thats the easiest option to begin with.

Ground/Earth wires on MINI's are usually brown, as said trace them back to the nearest body earth connection and check clean and tight metal to metal contact with no corrosion. Also check no water/moisture has entered the light units themselves.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll have a look at the cables at the light units.

Cheers
