Body Colour Painted Black Trim

I've seen several photos of the black trim around the wheel arches and side skirts being custom painted to match the body colour. Can anyone tell me what this would cost to get done?

Cheers,

Paul

Thumbs up Body color painted black trim

Baron MINI in Lenexa, KS quoted me a price of $695 to do this on my Chili Red MCS due for delivery in January.

Was that simply painting or were they going to smooth it all out and get it to match the metal?

Body color painted black trime

I can't answer your question yet. My sales advisor has been acting as a go-between with the body/paint shop. She is supposed to be getting me a printed copy of the work to be performed and the estimated cost. Probably won't have a definitive answer until some time in December. For $695 I would hope the finished product would be smooth surfaced.

Got some more info on painting the black trim to match body color. Turns out the quote I got from the sales rep was for the wheel well moldings only. I learned the dealer contracts out all their paint and body work so I went straight to them.

To have all the black trim painted would cost approximately $1,700. This includes the wheel well moldings, side skirts, front air dam, and lower rear spoiler.

To have only the black trim on the sides painted to match is approximately $1,000. This would include the wheel well moldings, side skirts, and trim pieces on the outside edges of the front air dam and the lower rear spoiler.

They would not say if the paint on the trim would be as smooth as on the main body. They indicated they did not want try to sand on the trim pieces because they are so thin. One suggested I purchase a small trim piece from the dealer and let him paint it to see how smooth it would be.

I am going to contact "Monster MINI" and inquire how they did the trim on their show car and how smooth the finish is.
They may not want to answer but all I can do is ask.

Now for the facetious answer. Do what I'm doing and buy a black car. Body coloured plastic trim then comes as standard.

Why not do it yourself? $15 max. If you screw it up, then take it to the paint booth, but it's rather hard to.

I will be doing it, so don't fret. I painted my trucks entire bumper, sure is nice!

Mine cost $300 with the Aero Kit fitted. Without the Aero Kit it would have been $1500.

I'm getting the aerokit side sills installed, and the black plastic trim painted all the way around the car, for about US$1,650.00. (That includes the $460 or so the sills themselves cost.) I guess the actual paint work is costing me about $1100.

This is at a pretty high-end body shop in high-overhead California, so I imagine you could have the paint done for $600 or less if you shop around.

I'm having this work done pre-delivery so I can finance it. The downside is that I have to wait another week for my car!

I may still get it by Christmas though...
