2001 Mini Cooper - Lost petrol cap

Hi all,

New member here.

While filling up I managed to leave my girlfriend's petrol cap at the station about 4 hours' drive from home and we don't remember which station, so it's not really possible to go back and ask about it.

I've had a look on ebay and nothing seems to be suitable. Only one item looked close and after messaging the seller they said it wouldn't fit and they had nothing suitable.

I've also tried searching the forums, but the only results I get seem to be guides on how to install a mini cooper S chrome petrol cap - not what we're after!

Could anyone point me to a seller? Or nudge me in the right direction of where to search? Is it called a 'petrol cap' ?

Thanks in advance!

Go to a main dealer, they will be able to sell you one, either that or have a ring around any local scrap yards to see if they have any. You could try a Motorfactors, or someone like Halfords, they may do one that fits.

The cap should be retained with a cord so you cant leave it behind?
Its called a petrol cap retaining strap.

There was no cord unfortunately.

They don't appear to be listed on either of those websites?

Phone or email the websites above (BMiniparts or MinisparesUK) asking for item 16 Filler Cap in diagram below (BMW Part No. 16117193382) or visit your local MINI Dealership and ask/order it along with the filler cap retaining strap item 14 (BMW Part No. 51177074949) so it does not get lost again. New or secondhand parts will be ok, used will be slightly cheaper + postage.
