Custom graphics for R52 bonnet?

Bit of a disaster trying to fit stripes to the bonnet of my recently acquired Hot Orange Cooper S convertible! Looked bad where there were a couple of stone chips, so I removed the stripe again, and a large area of the clear coat came away. I guess water had got in via the chips, and caused partial delamination.
Stripe came off really easily, as it was applied wet, and had only been on the car for 15 minutes.

I've sprayed some clear acrylic over the damaged area, and wet sanded and polished it. Doesn't look too bad, unless the light catches it. I want to sort it out properly.

My first thought was to get the bonnet resprayed (not cheap!) or add a couple of spotlights (cheaper).
I then had the idea of getting stripes sprayed on, or even something a bit more adventurous - some fancy graphics.

My brother does custom paintwork on bikes and cars, so getting the graphics done isn't a problem. Just no idea what kind of design would look good. Chequered stripes with a fadeout is all I can think of.
Any ideas?

I should add that getting my brother to just spray the bonnet as standard isn't really an option. Matching to the existing paintwork isn't something he does.
