black wheels: paint or powder coat?

Hi all,
I am wanting to experiment with black wheels on my PS/B and was wondering if anyone has experience? My question is should i paint them or powdercoat them? My previous experience is with Land Rovers and we would powder coat them, but they also had big agressive mud tires. With these high performance tires, i thought the powder coating could be a balance issue.

Thanks for any input.

i think it all depends on what effect you want, paint will give a shiny gloss effect and im sure that powder coating will give a matt black effect

i love my mini

I've been looking into this and have been told powder is the way to go. i can see balance as an issue unless the guy applies it with a trowel

i wanted matte black but was told that that's not good as it marks too easily to be used on a wheel

Powder coat will be more durable.

:-)

I'm not an expert, but I do know powder coating is much more durable and you can get a high gloss finish with it too.

Thanks for the info. we have a guy in town who is willing to powder coat the wheels...and can do glossy finish. actually, he can do any color i want. in dealing with powder coaters in the past, they don't like little jobs like wheels, but this guy doesn't seem to mind. i think i will go that route.

also...does anyone have any pics of a pure silver/ black MINI with black wheels? i haven't seen one yet.

thanks again,
-rob
