Tinted Windows Option!? - MINI Cooper Forum

Hi,

Ive noticed in the Mini accessory catalogue that tinted windows is an option! Has anyone actually had this done factory and how dark is it?

Pictures would be appreciated as my order is almost finalised!

Here you go...

I've got the factory fitted tinted glass. It's not that dark, just enough for people to notice it's tinted. Apparently it's as dark as you can have it legally, without any problems. The police in my area have now got light meters for checking window tints. It's such a shame they've got so little else to do with their time!

I`ll think about it, I might spend a little more and go for aftermarket darker, My brother had his yellow beetle done and my dad had his X5 done @ the same time and they have been done for over 1 year without any police problems!

The front side windows are legally dark but the back it doesnt matter.

Anyone else with aftermarket tinted windows???

The pics look like they've only tinted the rear windows, not the doors - is that right or is my eyesight shot? And also they are offering a 'top tint windscreen' - any info or pics on that?

You are quite right, only the rear three windows are tinted. The door windows have an "ever-so-slight" tint (hardly noticable).
I remarked on this to the dealer on my test drive and he went on about the police checking and that after market tinting was available, but didnt recommend it because he didn't want people coming back to him saying they just got knicked for their tinted windows...

I considered the "Top Tint" feature. Allegedly, this is quite a recent addition but all it is, is a dark strip at the top of the windscreen to help reduce sun glare... I didn't think it was worth it (for £50) and went for the heated mirror/washer combo which was £10 less.....

So thats what top tint is. I should have searched a bit harder!

Any idea why its incompatible with the visibility package? Not a case of the tint interfering with the rain sensor is it?

Is it more likely that the heated windscreen would affect the film used for tinting, and if thats the case, does anyone know if a heated windscreen can be tinted via the aftermarket route?
