Red Cooper Chrome Bumper Inserts

I've just ordered my first Mini - a Chilli Red Cooper with white roof. Having browsed around for a nice set of 17's I've now decided that I want the chrome bumper inserts. When I contacted my local dealer about adding these once the car has arrived, he told me that they are prone to fitting problems if you add them at a later date.

Has anyone any experience of this, and if so, do you know of a solution!?

Have you ordered a base Cooper? If you order the pepper pack (£300) you'll get them included as well as a few other useful bits & bobs.

You can change your order up to a certain time before delivery if you want to.

I know Satelite has had them added to his ONE.

Welcome to MINI2 BTW.

I have had my Chrome inserts relaced twice now. Not because they have had problems but because people keep using them to test the strength of their towing hitches. I have seen the problems the body shop had getting the old ones off. Once they are on, they are on.

The car's been ordered through a finance deal with my employer so unfortunately I can't add any extra's! If you reckon there aren't any problems adding them at a later date though Keef, I'll get some ordered up!

Thanks guys!

I found them quite easy to replace, if you have chrome bumper strips already. Somebody dented my rear one, and I replaced it myself. All that needs done is to break off the ten or so tabs that hold it in place, and then snap on the new one.

How much did BMW charge you to change it?

£27.50 all in. They didn't charge me for the first one. The body shop technician was at it for a good half hour trying to get the originals off. He told me there was a special tool, that he didn't have, that made the job easier.

well £27 isn't too bad.

As for the special tool? i found a pair of pliers to do the trick.

But good to hear you weren't ripped off.

i think his question was about a cooper that never had them and he wanted to put them on later. from the factory they are held on with a bunch of plastic tabs that insert into corresponding slots on the bumper. A car ordered without the chrome bumpers will not have these slots. To these tabs, You must cut them/file them down flush and use 3M two sided body adheisive to attach them. Go to MINIMANIA.com for them. Aprox 145 U.S. dollars. Cheaper than dealer. That 3M
adheisive is super good and they will never come off. Mine look great. LET'S MOTOR

Cool. I just got them a few days ago. And yesteday I was ready to install them when I realized I have no tabs on my bumper. AARRGGGHHH. I was like, "Now I gotta cut the bumber??? Oh damn, that's gonna take forever to get perfect and I might mess up!"

I'll cut the tabs off and get the 3M double sided adhesive. Thanks.

Indi + Chrome

There's no bonnet stripes (not my thing) but some snow to makeup for it:

There's tons, and tons of pictures if you search through the MINI gallery though.
