Thoughts on After-market Auxiliary HID Low Beam Kits?

The new Sylvania HID X1010 kit comes to mind. I have decided (my Mini is currently on order) just to replace the standard headlight bulbs with the new H7 Sylvania SilverStar high performance halogen bulb. Heck of a lot cheaper. Interested in hearing from users of both. I don't want anything that only works with the high beams on. Rumor has it also that some States are cracking down on auxiliary, i.e., Xenon lights. If that's the case, maybe it's good I didn't order the factory Xenons. Don't know. Thanks. I am a new member.

Xenon factory headlights are 50 state legal, however the colored 'fake' Xenon bulbs the ricers use have been and always will be illegal (look at the package, it will say offroad use only). Aux lights are only legal with the highbeams, they are extremely blinding for oncoming traffic and should never be used with low beams.

Yes, it really pays to do your homework on these things. Ebay is full of after-market "fake" Xenon bulbs. My understanding though is that I should have no problem with the new Sylvania H7 SilverStar halogen bulb. It may not be as bright as the factory Xenon but does offer an improvement in nightime visibility. Would like to hear from users.

Most of the folks on here have either used the Phillips or Osram bulbs from http://www.powerbulbs.com/index.htm

Dark Silver High Beam Replacements

Kraigster414

I've replaced the high beam lamps on both of our MCs. Both cars are factory xenon and the SilverStars really make a difference at night. I have no experience on how they would be on the low beams but I speculate a vast improvement..

Personally ive been using the phillips 30% extra light bulbs for my dipped beams and recently ive changed to some lucas blue lightning ones. both ive found are similiar in brightness and appear white but ive yet to see a bulb to actually match the white/blue of xenon lights. If anyone knows this is untrue and knows a bulb to match the pure white/blue of xenons i'll be grateful to know! i'll order a set straightaway!!!

2003 Mini Cooper, Chilli Red, White Roof, Bonnet Stripes, Pepper Pack, Air Con.
