I was looking through my owners manual today and could not find any info on what type of Xenon HID (high intensity discharge) bulb our Mini's use. I am very impressed with the brightness of my Xenon's and would highly recommend them. Other drivers on the freeway actually signal before merging in front of me! The owner manual simply states the fact they should last the life of the car and not be turned on and off unnecessarily. After researching the subject, I believe our Mini's with the Xenon HID option use a 35w 4200k D2S HID bulb. Not found at the local auto parts store, that's for sure! A new bulb runs right around $150. Yes, that's $300 for a new pair of bulbs. I am curious if anybody has installed a pair of these Philips Ultinon 6000k HID Xenon lamps?
They burn a bluish/purple color as opposed to the factory Mini bulb which burns white.
