"Number" side stickers

Im thinking of getting some white number side stickers for my Chilli Red Cooper. Does anyone know if the adhesive on the sticker is likely to have any impact on the paintwork?

Cheers,

Andrew

p.s does anyone have a picture of their MINI with these stickers on?

Andrew,

I have no exprience with MINI Chili Red but I do know that most solid red cars suffer with paint fade after a few years.

If the same were to happen with the MINI (and to be honest I think it would), when you remove the sticker you'll find the colour underneath will be brighter than the rest of the car.

Perhaps someone on here has removed bonnet stripes from a Chili red car, they may have experience in the fading...

Richard.

Have a look at Permaslide's gallery

It's a very nice looking car.

Someone told me that it's ilegal to have numbers on the side of your car.

Not sure how true that is,but might be worth checking out before you go for it.

Just ordered a pair from Idle Gear. Was quite tempted to get "69" like Permaslide but settled for a boring "7"!

7 is boring, but lucky.

What's the square-root of 69? 8 something. Get it; ate something. The something is around 8.304 or 305.

My autoX numbers are 96. I want to show my maturity for not reversing them.

I had a black "2" circle with the cut-out "2" showing the LY colour through it. One on each door.
I was stopped by a police car after driving around for 6 months and reported for "promoting racing on the public highway". My kids thought it was very funny seeing as I was only doing 45 mph at the time in a 60! My protestations that I was doing nothing of the sort only resulted in them photographing the car as evidence.

The case went to Court where I was told that the Court took a dim view of people driving around in race clad cars, the chequered roof didn't help. Despite having no points on my DL, I was fined £500 and given 6 points. Thank heavens it was only a ONE. If it had had a JCW kitted Cooper I would probebly have been given a custodial sentence!

OK well you should have spotted the porky by now. One racing driver I know was once told this by a policeman whom he had annoyed for something or other. It also is written down in the regulations to do with Racing Licenses. You might have your license withdrawn if you drive your racing car on the public highway with the numbers still fitted. Some cars put a red "X" across the number to denote "not racing".

My number did not conform to official race number style of white background and black numbers. In over 2 1/2 years I never was asked about the number, and some passing police even commented what a good car it was. No mention of the number ever. I mentioned this racing number illegality thing to my father-in-law who is a circuit judge. He said that it would be a tough case to prove that you were "promoting racing" and viewed it as more of a case of self expression.

No doubt that it might get a mention if you were prosecuted for actually racing, but that is a different matter.

It is indeed illegal to have a white square or circle with numbers on whilst driving on the public roads if not participating in an official rally and do not have the appropriate racing license and insurance. As a lot of these events have to use the public roads to get to and from stages the numbers have to be removed or crossed out when not racing.

I've actually seen one car with the tiniest black strip through the number you have ever seen. Like about a mm. Apparently this is perfectly legal!

It was acceptable in the 80's

Then there is the question of the square root of -69? i8 something.

I went to a rally and someone had magnetic Numbers. These are called "meatball" Numbers. Get the magnetic ones they're not perminent and if stopped can be removed. Do a search on Yahoo. I'll try to find more info..

United-States Numbers

Hello all,

I would definitely go with magnetic ones, they are available from pegasus racing supply, http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/ you can check out the ones I just had made for my MCS which I autoross with the SCCA. You can buy the magnetic circles, in just about any size you want, and then apply the numbers yourself (you can of course order any number you want), as long as it's not my lucky number.

Don't just stick numbers on your doors, you will regret it for many reasons (some of which have already been mentioned above like paint fade, police, wear, police and police!).

Good luck,
Nick

Er, am a bit worried now about sticking the numbers on my car. *sigh* Apial, after reading your story, I think this just about sums up how crap the attitude of the Police can be towards car drivers.
