i want to continue them over the roof in BRG [preferably metallic] vinyl!
i tracked down the code for a particular Avery vinyl [A7772 - Pine Green Metallic] but there's none in australia!
so...
are there any american MINI2ers with the connections to enquire as to whether you can get a couple of metres for me? please!
if you've previously colour-matched BRG, a code for the 3M / Avery / whatever-brand vinyl would be GREAT!
can anybody suggest an alternative idea? i've been told printed vinyls won't be metallic & will be a difficult [& potentially poor] colur-match, & painting vinyl is a messy issue!
taaaaa...
ps. i was initially keen on the cooperflags kit [would've come with white & brg stripes included], but the postage down-under is just a real killer for a project that's meant to add hp without breaking the bank [unlike the JCW kit! ]... so sorry guys!
that was of course when i was under the impression the coloured vinyl would be available down here in oz!
The Avery film XL2062 is the nearest film you will get to BRG it is a ccouple of shades lighter, but will be broken up with the glass area.
There is no 3M alternatives available, as the only metallic green they do is the same as the pale metallic green of the Cooper ( don't know the colour nam ).
There is also Avery XL2732 which is the Iridescent colour change material which looks BRG from one angle and then changes to a deep purple from the other.
the local distributor says the XL2062 is 'sea green', or what they now call 'hunter green'... it's 1 shade lighter than the 'pine green' i mentioned above, but THEY HAVE BULK STOCK! [as opposed to having to import, & possibly manufacture to order the 'pine green']
i'll have a squiz tomorrow when i'm back in sydney to see how the colour looks up against the car... have you used the XL2062 yourself patrick? i'm sure the windows will break up the colours & it'll likely look darker against the white roof anyway!
everybody... please still post if you have any other input!
No not yet, but have used the other colours in the range, and would use them again. They are quite tricky to work with as the initial adhesive grab is very strong. I wouldn't suggest using water to ease appliaction though as this always sits in the places you need the most adhesion.
The 2732 is a nearer match to BRG, but only from one angle...the other it looks purple.
alrighty... checked out the XL2062 you mentioned patrick... it's now A7770 under the newer [? american] Avery system! it's noticeably lighter than the 'pine green' but doesn't look so bad when up on the white roof! it's certainly not my first choice, but comes in a very close second!
i also discovered looking at the charts that the current A7772 'pine green' is not featured in the older XL series catalog... so that's why many haven't seen or heard of it!
unfortunatley every distributor i've spoken to has no stock, & given they need to order a 91m roll are reluctant to do so given i would only be taking 2m off their hands!
so... are there any americans out there that could possibly make some calls to see if their local signwriter or distributor can get some for me!
i'm gonna do another google search, but vinyl isn't the easiest thing to source out online!
I called the tape distributor I use, and he can get 15in X 10yds for $45us. I'll let you figure that out in real units and au dollars. That's way more than you need, but that's the minimum quantity available from distribution. The other hurdle you face would be the shipping cost. My guess would be about $25us for surface and $75us for 5-day air. Anyways, I could help you out on this end if you decide to venture that direction---just PM me.
OK, sounds like a plan. The shipping weight for 10yds is 3lbs, and the cheapest post I could find was USPS parcel post at about $23+. There was a slightly higher rate for Western Australia. Which side are you located on?
