United-Kingdom fuel lid door replacement

Hello out there can you help.I recently bought an aluminium fuel lid door
and was wondering if anyone had fitted one as my instructions are a bit vague.
Im at the stage where I've removed the wheel and taken the fuel pipe away in the instructions.
Any help would be much appreciated. PS they dont call me frank spencer for nothing.

Hi,

Just a suggestion... the existing door lid simply screws off of the plastic behind it. Are you sure you need to go as far as removing the wheel etc? I think you have to turn the door lid anti clockwise to release it.

Maybe the FAQ on fitting the S fuel cap will help?

Ahh okay, I just thought you might have had a replacement door.

Your next step after loosening the rubber neck around the fuel cap is to prize out the assembly. put masking tape (several layers) around the seam where the plastic assembly meets the body of the car. Then insert a credit card between the seam (this will act as the main protection of your bodywork). Use a screw driver to prize out the assembly. There are three clips at the top, right and bottom where the lumps can be seen on the plastic assembly. After releasing these you should be able to work out the old part from the right hand side. I managed to do all of this without removing the wheel so you should be okay.
You will probably bend a metal retaining clip on the right after you get the part out.. simply bend it back into position. You will know if it isn't in the right place as the replacement will not sit flush with the bodywork.

I still have my old mini ONE fuel lid assembly so I can take pics if you want to see what you dealing with... let me know.

Need any more info, just let me know

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan

Thanks for the information. Went to Mini Fair, Bingley Hall today and saw a demonstrator on Mini Mania UK stand with the same fuel cap fitted. They told me fitting procedure and said to email them for further instructions. Think I can sort now so thanks again for your input.
