How to remove sticky stuff safely from body??

I am temporarily removing my number plates which are stuck on with adhesive pads. How can I remove the sticky stuff that will remain when plates off safely so not to damage the paintwork? Will turps or something like that do??

Hi,

Probably best to try some tar remover as this should soften the adhesive and make it
easier to remove. The next step would be to try somr de-greaseant such as gunk.

Hope that helps

Something like lighter fluid, or one of those tar removers perhaps?

Yes, you can get tar remover from Halfords or any car shop. I've got the Autoglym one, and it's basicaly just a solvent/degreaser type thing. Safe for paint, but make sure you wash it off thoroughly afterwards.

Autoglym Tar Remover will do the job, as will lighter fuel, but by far the the best way is to heat the pad with a hair dryer and you will be able to rub it off with your finger.

Remove those sticky marks!!

I have removed many "sticky" decals from my cars over the years (company car logos)and I always find using pure Alcohol from the Chemist to be the best, cleanest and most cost effective.

I canīt remember the name exactly in the UK, but any chemist will help you...funny enough I have just purchased some at last here in Spain, called Alcohol Sanitario 96.

Good luck and rub with care

Dave
